Sera and Lilu Lu looked up at the towering tree, realizing it was a ghost tree. However, hiding within its embrace to avoid becoming a man-eater wasn't such a bad idea after all. They glanced at Li Yunqing.
"Master?"
Li Yunqing turned to them briefly before looking back up at the great tree. "If you continue like this, you might overcome your fear of sunlight. It will take a long time, and your body may not withstand it at first."
Mu Sen, having heard Li Yunqing's words, fell silent for a moment before speaking. "I don’t know if I can overcome the sunlight. I never really thought about it; I just want to live and not eat people."
Li Yunqing pondered for a moment and cast a memory-seeking spell on Mu Sen.
Mu Sen was just a child of around ten years old, who preferred to stay alone beneath the tree, without friends. His mother watched him with concern but felt helpless. One day, a powerful ghost passed through Mu Sen's village and, perhaps out of whimsy, killed all the villagers. Only Mu Sen remained outside under the large tree, escaping the massacre.
The ghost, curious about the enormous tree, approached and found Mu Sen sitting there in a daze. Having just killed and filled his belly, he had nothing better to do and decided to give Mu Sen a few drops of blood.
The ghost watched with interest as Mu Sen drank the blood and then writhed in agony on the ground, his eyes filled with madness. The ghost went back to the village and brought back several corpses that he hadn't eaten yet, tossing them beside Mu Sen.
Sensing the smell of fresh blood, Mu Sen looked at the bodies—people he often saw in the village. His madness was slightly suppressed as some rationality returned. He slowly moved toward the corpses but pulled his hand back just as he was about to touch them.
This cycle repeated several times until the powerful ghost grew impatient with Mu Sen's behavior, feeling it wasted his time. He kicked Mu Sen hard in the stomach, causing him to clutch his empty abdomen in pain.
The ghost glanced at Mu Sen but lost interest and turned away, humming as he left.
The intense pain helped restore some of Mu Sen's rationality. Enduring the agony, he dug a pit by hand beneath the tree and buried the bodies within it. Looking back at the village, he noticed that even as night fell, there were no lights; it had completely descended into darkness and silence. Not only did Mu Sen feel physical pain now, but also emotional suffering.
They are all dead! I'm the only one still alive.
Turning back to look at the great tree, he thought, At least you are here with me.
Mu Sen dug into the tree trunk and squeezed himself inside, then fainted. Blood continued to flow from his wound, merging with the great tree. The tree absorbed Mu Sen's blood and began to grow, while the opening he had made started to heal.
Time passed, and Mu Sen felt himself wrapped in something warm. Although he didn't open his eyes, he could see the surroundings. Is that you? The great tree?
Li Yunqing stroked his chin, contemplating the sad story. However, since Mu Sen loved the tree, it seemed he wouldn’t be allowed to leave. After all, he had already become one with the tree; Mu Sen was the tree, and the tree was Mu Sen.
Deciding not to make too many movements, Li Yunqing cast a vision-enhancing spell and saw Mu Sen's body inside the tree. He teleported in and found a space where Mu Sen's body was enveloped in a massive bubble.
Li Yunqing reached into Mu Sen's body and searched around before extracting two small orbs of light. He then teleported back out.
Mu Sen felt as if something was missing inside him, yet it also felt like something had been restored. What did you do?
At that moment, Mu Sen could only see the great tree and enormous plants; he noticed Li Yunqing suddenly disappear and then reappear.
I didn’t do much; I just took a little something from you.
Li Yunqing tossed the two small orbs of light into the air, but others couldn’t see them; they could only see Li Yunqing throwing something.
Li Yunqing glanced at the great tree and realized it needed some attention as well. He took out a green potion bottle filled with life energy.
What do you have in your hand? Why does the tree crave it so much? Mu Sen asked, sensing the tree's desire.
Li Yunqing uncorked the potion bottle and poured it at the base of the great tree. One bottle should be enough. This is Life Water, a special version crafted by me.
The great tree underwent a subtle transformation. It began to grow even larger, its leaves became more vibrant, the trunk grew sturdier, and its aura shifted as well.
