In a small village on the border of Cao Wei, a terrible plague suddenly struck. The villagers fell one after another, their groans of pain mingling with the fear of death, enveloping the entire village. Upon hearing the news, Su Yizhi, Fu Xingchen, and Mu Yunfan immediately rushed over with some manpower and medicinal herbs, anxious to help.
Upon arriving at the village, they were shocked by the grim scene before them. The villagers lay weakly in their beds, each one seemingly filled with despair for life. At that moment, a slender woman was busy tending to the sick; her name was Zhao Ling'er. Coming from a family of healers, she had studied medicine under her elders since childhood and had considerable insight into various ailments. She quickly diagnosed the patients and determined that this was a highly contagious plague.
Su Yizhi decisively exclaimed, "Fellow villagers, we must quickly set up isolation areas! We cannot allow this plague to spread any further!" The crowd responded eagerly and sprang into action. Fu Xingchen and Mu Yunfan moved among the villagers, patiently reassuring them, "Don’t be afraid, we will find a way to cure you!"
However, the available medicinal herbs were far from enough to treat so many patients. As Su Yizhi furrowed his brow in thought for a solution, Lin Yu beside him said, " Brother Su, there may be herbs we need in the surrounding mountains and forests, but searching there will likely be fraught with difficulties." Su Yizhi's eyes lit up: "Lin Brother is right; we must act without delay! I will personally lead the team into the mountains!"
Just as they were preparing to set off, a dark-skinned man strode over. His name was Li Hu, a local hunter who had come to offer his assistance after hearing about Su Yizhi and his companions' noble deeds. "Hero Su, I know these mountains well; let me guide you!" Li Hu said. Su Yizhi patted him on the shoulder: "Great! With Brother Li leading the way, we have confidence!"
Thus, Su Yizhi led Li Hu and several team members deep into the surrounding mountains. The thickets were dense with thorns, making every step forward exceptionally difficult. Steep slopes caused team members to nearly slip several times, while the thick foliage obscured their sense of direction. Suddenly, a snake as thick as an arm slithered out from the grass, flicking its tongue. The team tensed up immediately; however, Li Hu remained calm. He picked up a branch and deftly pushed the snake aside: "Everyone be careful; there are many dangers in these woods."
After some searching, they finally found several key herbs. But a new challenge arose: one of the herbs grew on a sheer cliff face that dropped vertically like it had been carved by a knife, surrounded by jagged rocks.
Li Hu volunteered: "I've been climbing since I was young; I can scale this cliff!" With that, he tied a rope around his waist and handed the other end to his teammates before starting his ascent. He used both hands and feet to find every possible foothold on the cliff face, moving cautiously with each step.
Just as he was about to reach for the herb, a stone beneath him suddenly shifted. Li Hu's body lurched dangerously close to falling. "Li Hu!" everyone exclaimed in alarm. Su Yizhi reacted quickly and extended a long branch towards him: "Brother Li, grab hold!" Li Hu grasped the branch tightly with one hand to steady himself as beads of sweat rolled down his forehead. Taking a deep breath to adjust his position, he continued climbing.
At that moment, Lin Yu shouted from below: "Brother Li, there's a protrusion on your left that you can use for support!" Following Lin Yu's advice, Li Hu spotted a suitable hold and shifted his body leftward to stabilize himself before reaching out for the herb and pulling it free!
With their bounty in hand, they hurried back to the village. Zhao Ling'er immediately began preparing the herbs while the team assisted in boiling medicine and distributing it. After some time of treatment, the outbreak gradually came under control as more villagers regained their health. They also discovered methods to prevent further spread of the plague and shared this knowledge with the villagers. The villagers were deeply grateful and offered whatever little food they had.
However, their good deeds caught the attention of some malicious forces. In a nearby mountain stronghold, a bandit leader heard about the trio's actions and began to plot ill intentions. He viewed Fu Xingchen and his companions' growing influence as a threat to their power base and felt jealousy over the villagers' support for them.
He summoned his underlings and plotted in the dark mountain stronghold, "Once they leave the village, we strike! We'll take their supplies and deal with them!"
At that moment, Su Yizhi and the others were unaware of the impending danger. They saw the village gradually coming back to life, with the villagers' lives slowly returning to normal, and they planned to leave. On the day they prepared to depart, Su Yizhi, Fu Xingchen, and Mu Yunfan led their team and bid farewell to the villagers. The villagers waved goodbye, their eyes filled with reluctance and gratitude.
Not long after they left the village, a cloud of dust suddenly rose ahead as a group of bandits armed with sharp blades surged from all directions, surrounding them completely. The leader of the bandits rode at the front on horseback, a fierce expression on his face. "Trying to leave? Leave everything behind!" Su Yizhi and the others' expressions changed dramatically as they quickly gathered their team, gripping the hilts of their swords; a fierce battle seemed imminent...
