Xiao Zhuzi, Fei Bao, and Xi Xi traveled for three days and finally arrived at Grass Leaf Forest. From a distance, they spotted a familiar figure waiting for them.
“It’s Wise Snail Village Chief!” Xiao Zhuzi exclaimed, her eyes lighting up instantly. Seeing the beloved Snail Village Chief made her feel as if she were reuniting with family. She dashed forward and threw herself into his embrace, joyfully saying, “Wise Snail Village Chief! I’ve missed you so much!”
Snail Village Chief watched the little girl he had worried about day and night rush towards him, her smile radiant in the sunlight. She had tanned a bit and seemed to have lost some weight, but her eyes still sparkled brightly. He tenderly wrapped his tentacles around Xiao Zhuzi and after a moment said, “Good child, I didn’t expect… I didn’t expect you would return to Grass Leaf Forest to see us again. I thought you would go straight home…” Snail Village Chief discreetly wiped away a tear with his tentacle and continued with a smile, “I was overjoyed to receive news from Dragonfly Elder. I figured you would arrive today, so I’ve been waiting here since early morning!”
Wise Snail Village Chief then turned to Fei Bao and Xi Xi, saying, “You must be Fei Bao and Xi Xi. Welcome to Grass Leaf Forest! Thank you for taking care of our Xiao Zhuzi.”
“Hello, Wise Snail Village Chief!” Fei Bao and Xi Xi chimed in cheerfully.
“Wise Snail Village Chief, where is Huahua? Why didn’t she come to greet me?” Xiao Zhuzi looked around but couldn’t find her friend. “Is she hiding nearby trying to scare me? That mischievous Ladybug!”
As she spoke, Xiao Zhuzi ran behind some grass trees to look for Huahua but found no trace of her. Confused, she turned back to Snail Village Chief. With a sorrowful expression, he approached her and said, “Xiao Zhuzi, dear child, regarding Huahua… Mr. Hummingbird wishes to explain it to you personally. He has something he wants to give you. Come on, I’ll take you over to Grass Leaf School.”
“Ah? Mr. Hummingbird?” Xiao Zhuzi recalled that Mr. Hummingbird was someone remarkable whom Huahua had told her about. Following Snail Village Chief deeper into Grass Leaf Forest, she noticed his serious demeanor and felt a wave of concern.
As they walked along the path, Xiao Zhuzi noticed a peculiar patrol team moving through Grass Leaf Forest.
“Wise Snail Village Chief, what is that team? I didn’t see them when I came last time,” Xiao Zhuzi asked curiously.
Snail Village Chief adjusted his emotions and forced a smile as he explained softly, “That is our Peace Patrol Team. Ever since the victory in the Grass Leaf Forest Defense Battle, we have entered a phase of post-war reconstruction. It’s a long and arduous process.”
“We not only need to repair the damaged Grass Leaf Forest but also establish the Grass Leaf Community and Grass Leaf School,” Wise Snail Village Chief continued. “This special patrol team is responsible for monitoring the forest boundaries daily to ensure safety and harmony among all groups.”
Fei Bao flapped his wings excitedly as he observed the patrol team: “There are so many different kinds of bugs in the patrol team!”
Wise Snail Village Chief nodded in agreement: “That’s right; the Peace Patrol Team is made up of volunteers from various Bug Families.”
They continued along the forest path until they reached a grassy square where a new-looking building stood. From inside came the lively sounds of young bugs chatting and laughing.
“This is the newly built Grass Leaf School,” Wise Snail Village Chief noted as he saw the three little ones staring at the building.
Xi Xi asked curiously, “There’s even a school for bugs! Wise Snail Village Chief, what do they learn there?”
“In addition to basic survival skills, they learn how to utilize resources from Grass Leaf Forest and how to protect themselves and their companions in times of crisis,” Wise Snail Village Chief answered patiently. “I hope these children will become the new generation of builders and guardians of Grass Leaf Forest.”
“Come this way; Mr. Hummingbird is waiting for you in his office,” Snail Village Chief gestured with his tentacle towards a large tree across the square that had a big hollow in its trunk. “Mr. Hummingbird is now the principal of Grass Leaf School; several former leaders of the alliance army are also key instructors at the school now. For example, Goliath—whom you’ve met before—he even saved us; he teaches tactical courses here.”
As they crossed the square, Xiao Zhuzi noticed a tall monument made of branches and flowers standing in the center; it bore the inscription “Grass Leaf Hero Forever Immortal.” Just as they approached Great Tree Hollow, Mr. Hummingbird flew out. He gently nodded at Snail Village Chief before turning his serious gaze towards Xiao Zhuzi. This was his first time meeting this human girl; Mr. Hummingbird smiled warmly at everyone:
“Children, welcome to Grass Leaf Forest.”
Xiao Zhuzi politely nodded her head: “Mr. Hummingbird, hello! I am Xiao Zhuzi; this is my friend Fei Bao and Xi Xi. Huahua has mentioned you before; she always looks up to you as an idol.”
Mr. Hummingbird smiled back and nodded, but a hint of sadness flickered in his eyes.
