As I turned my head suddenly, a faint smile appeared on my lips, a meeting in this mortal world; through the stormy rain, vows as solid as rock, fate arises and fades away; rivers can be shaken, mountains are high and roads are long, a lonely boat has no place to rely on; ancient melodies echo through a thousand years, dreams return to this night, I only wish for your company; gatherings and separations are unpredictable, the moon waxes and wanes, I ask you how much do you remember?
Years have passed since we parted, two souls adrift, tears flowing like rivers, a heartbroken person at the ends of the earth, when will we share a cup again in this life?
Longing has already broken my heart, not in sorrow, as the red candle burns down and tears are shed together in raising a toast, the bright moon and gentle breeze await those who have not returned!
Cong Rong and Yuan Yueming were heartbroken as they leaned over the cold bodies of Cong Jiang and Wen Hui. Their cries were heart-wrenching, as if they wanted to drown the entire world in their endless sorrow. Yuan Yueming gritted her teeth tightly and squeezed out a sentence through clenched jaws: “It’s all that Yang Yan’s fault—the ruthless and despicable villain—that our family has been shattered. This grudge must be avenged; when I see him one day, I will personally make him suffer a thousand cuts and break his body into pieces to relieve my hatred!” Beside them, Lin Ning was flooded with memories of Cong Jiang teaching him martial arts and solemnly entrusting him with the responsibility of saving the Sun Moon Gang. Overwhelmed by grief, tears streamed down his face like a dam bursting.
After a long while, the sorrow of the crowd gradually subsided. Lin Ning forced himself to suppress his inner pain and walked over to Cong Rong’s side. He spoke softly, “Rong'er, the deceased have passed on; let your parents rest in peace. You and your brothers should take their bodies back to the Sun Moon Gang for a proper burial so they can find rest.” However, at that moment, Cong Rong was blinded by hatred. She shook her head in confusion and resolutely said, “No! I cannot let that Yang Yan go unpunished. He caused me to be separated from my mother for nineteen years. Now that we have finally reunited as mother and daughter, we haven’t even enjoyed one day of happiness before being torn apart again. This blood debt must be repaid by my own hands!” After saying this, Cong Rong turned to Luo Xin and her other brothers and continued, “Brothers, please ensure that my parents’ bodies are safely escorted back to the Sun Moon Gang. I will join Master Brother on the path of revenge; no matter how perilous it may be ahead, I will never back down!” Luo Xin looked at Cong Rong’s determined eyes and could only nod in agreement.
The group carefully selected and purchased two finely crafted coffins and then found two spacious and sturdy horse-drawn carriages. They gently placed Cong Jiang’s and Wen Hui’s bodies onto the carriages as if afraid to disturb the last peace of these departed souls. Lin Ning solemnly instructed Luo Xin, “Let my sweat blood horse and Yue Ming's Azure Wind Horse each pull one carriage at full speed; we should reach the Sun Moon Gang in about three or four days so we can safely bring Uncle and Aunt back. The others can ride more ordinary horses and return to the Sun Moon Gang a little later.” After receiving their orders respectfully, Luo Xin and the others quickly set off on their journey home.
Once Luo Xin and the others had left, Lin Ning turned to Yuan Yueming and Cong Rong beside him with a gaze filled with determination and hatred. “Little sisters,” he said firmly, “Yang Yan is not just our enemy; he is an existential threat to the entire Sun Moon Gang. Even if he escapes to the ends of the earth, we must dig him out from wherever he hides so he can pay for his crimes!” However, at that moment, Later Jin's pursuers were hot on their trail; the situation was dire. The three decided to change their appearances to evade capture. They made their way to a market where they bought three sets of rough but durable men’s clothing. Then Lin Ning used his superb disguise skills to transform Yuan Yueming and Cong Rong into two dashing young men while he himself became an old man with a face full of gray whiskers—looking like a seasoned hermit from the martial world. In this way, it would be difficult for others to recognize their true identities.
Yuan Yueming asked Lin Ning, “Senior Brother, where exactly shall we go to find those treacherous villains Yang Yan and Chen Tao?” Lin Ning stroked his chin thoughtfully for a moment before slowly replying, “Sister, do not worry; let me analyze this. At Mountain God Temple that day, Yang Yan was sent by Hong Taiji along with Bai Family father and son as well as Dunhuang Double Slayers to hunt down Uncle Xiong. Now that Uncle Xiong has passed away, I believe these people will most likely return to Shengjing to report this matter back to Hong Taiji for rewards. As for Chen Tao—he is a shameless traitor of Great Ming; he certainly wouldn’t dare return to Zhongyuan. He must have been hiding among Later Jin's forces all these years just trying to survive. Fortunately for us three now that we have executed such exquisite disguises; there is no need to worry about being easily recognized. We must not delay any longer; let’s head back into Shengjing city immediately to gather information about these villains.” After hearing Lin Ning's reasoning, Yuan Yueming and Cong Rong nodded in agreement.
The three hurried back to Shengjing and found an inn where they temporarily settled down.
The next morning at dawn, Yuan Yueming, Lin Ning, and Cong Rong left the inn early and stepped onto the bustling streets. They noticed posters plastered on walls throughout Shengjing depicting images of Lin Ning, Yuan Yueming, Cong Jiang, Cong Rong, Luo Xin among others with a bounty of twenty taels of gold offered for their capture. The three exchanged glances before pretending to wander aimlessly around while each held an important mission in their hearts—to seek out any trace of Yang Yan and his cohorts.
Just then an eye-catching figure appeared ahead—a pregnant woman walking unsteadily toward them. As she drew closer with two beautifully patterned pieces of cloth tightly clutched in her hands, her brows furrowed slightly as if burdened by heavy worries; her once charming face now showed signs of fatigue as if she had endured a long arduous journey.
As she approached them closely enough for recognition, they couldn't help but widen their eyes in astonishment before joy bubbled up within them almost causing them to shout out loud—it was none other than Lin Xiu! Since her marriage with White Jade Peak, Lin Ning had not seen her again; who would have thought he would encounter her today in this foreign land far from Zhongyuan? His heart raced like a startled deer at this unexpected reunion.
Instinctively stepping forward intending to greet Lin Xiu but suddenly remembered that he was currently wanted by Hong Taiji—and disguised as an old man—he hesitated fearing that revealing himself might frighten her or attract attention from Later Jin's soldiers. So he forced himself to halt his advance.
Just as Lin Xiu was about to brush past him unexpectedly she dropped one piece of cloth onto the ground. Without hesitation Lin Ning quickly bent down nimbly picked it up from the ground carefully returning it into her hands. As their eyes met in that moment Lin Xiu displayed an expression of surprise followed by scanning over Yuan Yueming and Cong Rong standing beside him before she parted her lips slightly trembling as if wanting to express countless words yet ultimately remained silent simply gazing intently at Lin Ning with complex emotions swirling within her gaze…
Lin Xiu finally said softly: “Thank you so much, old man!” before turning away.
Lin Ning exchanged glances with Yuan Yueming and Cong Rong who understood immediately—since Lin Xiu appeared here then White Jade Peak must also be nearby. It was highly likely that Yang Yan along with Dunhuang Double Slayers were also around here somewhere.
The three moved swiftly yet cautiously trailing behind Lin Xiu maintaining distance while keeping their sights locked on her figure ahead until she turned into a quiet alleyway leading into an exquisitely decorated courtyard filled with elegant pavilions adorned with flowers and trees exuding gracefulness everywhere.
Lin Xiu confidently traversed through this courtyard heading straight towards a main room facing southward while they shared knowing looks nodding silently before swiftly leaping over its walls like agile cats approaching stealthily towards the main room.
Once close enough they each found suitable hiding spots beside doors or windows holding their breath straining ears listening intently for any sounds inside.
First came soft footsteps followed by a clear male voice saying: “Xiu'er! How many times have I told you? You don’t need to handle such trivial matters yourself—just instruct someone else!”
The speaker was White Jade Peak himself! As soon as he finished speaking anoth second Brother ntle melodic female voice replied: “Our child is about to arrive; I thought I’d buy some beautiful cloths for him (or her) myself! But what those servants choose never satisfies me—how could anything compare with what I personally select?”
It was indeed Lin Xiu responding! After this exchange there was brief silence as if both were gazing deeply into each other's eyes dreaming about future family reunions filled with warmth.
The three outside were touched by this conversation silently wishing for this loving couple’s soon-to-arrive new life blessing smiling knowingly imagining how happy Lin Xiu would be preparing clothes for her soon-to-be-born child.
At that moment White Jade Peak spoke again: “Great Khan has ordered me along with Second Uncle Yang Yan Dunhuang Double Slayers Hao Ge etc., to head towards Changbai Mountain seeking out reclusive master Siji whose name resonates throughout Jianghu bringing blessings from East West South North Siji alike! If we can gain his assistance it will surely help Later Jin achieve remarkable feats! Tomorrow morning we must set off—during this time you should stay home resting awaiting our child’s arrival! Hopefully our journey goes smoothly allowing us quickly find Siji bringing new strength back for Later Jin.”
