I suddenly slammed my phone onto the ground, and the screen shattered instantly like a spider's web, glass shards scattering everywhere, mirroring the collapse of my heart at that moment. 0

The harsh sound of breaking glass echoed in the silent room, sharp and piercing, as if it had penetrated my eardrum and struck directly at my heart. 0

Doctor Li quickly steadied me, his hand warm and strong, his tone calm and concerned. "Calm down, take a deep breath." 0

But I felt like a drowning person, unable to breathe, overwhelming fear engulfing me like a tidal wave, crashing over and over again without end. 0

The man's voice was low and cold, like a demon whispering from hell, echoing in my ears repeatedly, refusing to fade away. 0

I knew this was no simple hallucination; it was a real threat, a revenge stemming from the past. 0

I stumbled back home, my steps unsteady, everything before me becoming blurred as if shrouded in a layer of gray gauze. 0

Li Wei saw my pale face and vacant eyes and asked in alarm what had happened. 0

I opened my mouth but couldn't make any sound; my throat felt blocked. I could only hold her tightly, as if grasping the last lifeline, drawing warmth from her presence. 0

I began to dial that mysterious number repeatedly, again and again, but it never connected. The cold electronic voice mocked me like the laughter of death, striking at my nerves and heightening my anxiety. 0

I became more convinced that this was not an illusion; someone was deliberately orchestrating all of this. An enemy hidden in the shadows was closing in on me step by step. 0

I dug out the records of my revenge plan from five years ago. The yellowed pages emitted a musty odor, as if carrying the weight of time, documenting that past I wished I could forget. 0

Aside from me and Li Qiang, there were two other names: Wang Jun and Zhao Lei. They were both my former brothers, friends with whom I had shared life and death experiences. 0

I trembled as I dialed their numbers, but each time I was met with the message that their phones were turned off. A sense of foreboding washed over me. Had they also encountered the same fate as I had? Had they received that mysterious phone call and the Anonymous Letter? 0

Just then, my phone rang suddenly, the shrill tone piercing through the silence of the room, starkly out of place. It was an unfamiliar number. 0

I hesitated for a moment, my mind filled with conflict and struggle, but ultimately pressed the answer button and held the phone to my ear. 0

"Hello?" My voice was hoarse, trembling slightly as if I feared hearing bad news. 0

On the other end came a shaky voice, laced with fear and unease. "Is... is that you? Old Chen?" 0

It was Li Qiang, my brother who had participated in the revenge plan five years ago; his voice was one I would never forget. 0

"It's me, Li Qiang. What's wrong?" I asked urgently, filled with worry and anxiety. 0

"I... I received it too," Li Qiang's voice was intermittent, tinged with a hint of sobbing. "The Anonymous Letter... and the call..." 0

My heart sank like a stone, as if it had plunged into an ice cellar; a chill shot from my feet to the top of my head. 0

"What did the letter say?" I forced myself to suppress my inner terror, striving to keep my voice steady. 0

"It said... just like yours," Li Qiang's voice was filled with dread, as if he had seen something horrifying. "It said... it would come back for us..." 0

My breath quickened, and my heart raced violently, as if it were about to leap out of my chest. 0

We had arranged to meet at a secluded café. Under the dim light, Li Qiang's face was pale, his eyes dark-circled, and his stubble made him look as if he had aged ten years. 0

He sat across from me, gripping his coffee cup tightly, his knuckles turning white, his body trembling slightly. 0

"Wang Jun and Zhao Lei are both unreachable," Li Qiang's voice was low and hoarse, tinged with despair. "I called them, but their phones are off." 0

My heart sank to the bottom; an ominous premonition grew stronger, as if an invisible net was closing in on us. 0

"What on earth is happening?" I covered my face in anguish, feeling a splitting headache. "Wasn't everything supposed to be over five years ago?" 0

"I don't know," Li Qiang shook his head, his gaze hollow and confused. "But I feel like we've been drawn into a massive conspiracy." 0

Li Wei noticed my deteriorating mental state; I was often sleepless, plagued by nightmares, and during the day I was lost in thought. She began to worry for my safety and urged me to report it to the police. 0

I hesitated. I feared that police involvement would expose my past—a secret I desperately wanted to conceal, filled with sin and regret. 0

But if I didn’t report it, how could I face this unknown fear? How could I protect myself and Li Wei? 0

I found myself in a dilemma, trapped between two choices, struggling like a cornered beast in fear and despair. 0
