The two paused in their steps, looking at each other. Lana chuckled softly and said, "You go first." 0

Ivan felt nervous, unsure of how to start. Stealing a glance at Lana, he noticed that she wasn't mocking him; instead, her eyes held encouragement. Gathering his courage, he confessed, "I like you. I've liked you since you moved here." 0

Once he had started, his worries faded away. "That night at the end of May, when you pulled the village chief out of the house, I heard your conversation." 0

A flicker of panic crossed Lana's eyes as she opened her mouth to explain, but Ivan continued, "I don't care about your past. Really, I don't care. I like Natasha and I like Katyusha; I would never insult them, let alone hit them. Just give me a chance, Lana. I promise to take good care of you and the children." 0

Lana bowed her head and sobbed softly before suddenly lifting her head and wrapping her arms around Ivan, burying her face in his neck. Her sniffles gradually turned into full-blown cries as she clung tightly to his strong body, overwhelmed by countless grievances. 0

At that moment, the wooden door beside them swung open. Kozilov and Bella were munching on cucumbers, silently watching the two embrace. Lana's house and Kozilov's had been built together; the two families had become neighbors. 0

Ivan turned to see the onlookers and nervously explained, "It's not what you think!" 0

Kozilov wanted to tease this bashful guy but was elbowed in the ribs by Bella. Little Sister was not gentle; the pain made Kozilov gasp as Bella pulled him back inside the house. She then stepped out to the courtyard gate and gave Ivan an awkward smile before gently closing the gate behind her. 0

"Please stop crying," Ivan said frantically, trying to wipe away her tears. But Lana held his face with both hands, her cool and soft lips silencing his comforting words. A trickle of tears brought a bittersweet taste to both of them as they recalled their painful pasts. 0

Unbeknownst to them, they held each other tightly, wanting to merge into one another. 0

Just then, three-year-old Natasha struggled to carry her little sister as she stood at their home’s courtyard gate. Watching their mother and Uncle Ivan locked in an embrace, she instinctively covered her sister's eyes with her small hands. "You can't look!" 0

Ivan quickly released Lana and nervously rubbed his hands together as he approached to pick up the nearly dragging Katyusha. He then lifted Natasha, who blinked up at him with wide eyes. He planted a kiss on both their cheeks and promised, "From now on, Uncle will take great care of you two. Whatever you want to eat or play with, Uncle will get it for you." 0

Natasha looked into Ivan's misty eyes and asked innocently, "Uncle, will you hit Mommy?" 0

"No!" Ivan shook his head firmly. "Uncle loves your mommy too much to ever hurt her." 0
