On the other end of the phone, Larry was negotiating with the driver who had just gotten out of the car. Xu Li replied, "Let the driver go eat at the cafeteria first; I’ll be there shortly."
After putting away his phone and returning to his bedroom, Xu Li grabbed a few cigarettes and stuffed them into his bag. Accompanied by Little White, he left the house and drove towards the ranch. Little White ran alongside the car, its robust body keeping pace effortlessly with Mighty Chariot.
No one could believe that Little White, once born weighing only a pound, had grown to an impressive four and a half meters long and stood at one meter thirty tall, weighing nearly a hundred kilograms—just shy of Xiong Da’s weight. Xiong Er was even heavier than Xiong Da.
Moreover, Little White was far more intelligent and obedient than the other three tigers. This was the significant difference between being raised from a young age and being taken in later. While the other three tigers feasted on cow entrails daily, Little White enjoyed special privileges, freely eating cows, sheep, and pigs from the ranch.
Xu Li had designated a small area of land for Little White—mostly forest with a small river and grassland—where he could hunt cattle and sheep that were driven there. Whenever Little White grew tired of entrails, he would venture to that area to hunt, bringing back any leftovers for Dahua and his two sisters.
A sudden Tiger Roar startled dozens of men dining in the cafeteria, causing them to jump up in search of makeshift weapons. Larry quickly reassured them, "It's okay! It's just our village's pet tiger; it won't bite!"
This was no joking matter for the young men. A man in his forties glared at Larry, saying, "Tigers are hard to tame; there are plenty of man-eating ones out there."
"Really, our village kids love riding on tigers; you think they’d lie about it?"
Larry chuckled as he urged them to sit back down and continue eating. Just then, Xu Li walked into the dining hall. Larry quickly introduced him to the man who had just spoken: "Village Chief, this is Uncle Ivan; he’s in charge."
"I’m Makarov," Xu Li said as they shook hands.
Ivan opened his briefcase while eating and pulled out a document folder. "This is the contract for the reindeer you ordered from our ranch. We brought along one hundred male reindeer and three hundred females, plus over a hundred young females."
"What age are the males?" Xu Li asked as he lit a cigarette for Ivan.
"The males are all in their prime breeding age," Ivan replied while exhaling smoke. "If we had enough hands at our ranch, we wouldn’t part with so many at once."
As they chatted casually, Yegor and several other men from the village arrived by car. Once these drivers finished their meals, they helped unload the reindeer from the vehicle and guided them towards the newly constructed reindeer barn.
To prepare for this batch of reindeer, Yegor had made a special trip back to his uncle's house to bring along five or six experienced reindeer herders. They would stay at the ranch for about a month to teach Xiao Qing and others everything they needed to know about rearing reindeer.
As the ranch expanded, so did its need for more hands. Fortunately, many villagers had relatives eager to work at this growing establishment where families could thrive together.
Little White lay by Xu Li's feet, watching as one by one the reindeer were herded into their barn. Occasionally licking its lips in anticipation, Yegor and several of the herders checked on the health of these reindeer. It was nearly four in the morning when they finally caught five young deer and approached Xu Li. "Village Chief," they said, "these little guys have leg bone issues; they were likely stepped on by adult deer during transport."
