Xiao Xiao Bai huddled in the corner of the living room, continuously crying out. Xu Li was annoyed by the noise and was about to scold the Siberian Big Spotted Cat, but it beat him to it, roaring, "If you keep crying, I'll eat you!"
"Don't eat me! I won't cry anymore!" Xiao Xiao Bai trembled in fear, curling up in the corner. Anna and Eva glanced at Xiao Xiao Bai while eating, their eyes filled with curiosity, wondering why their husband had brought this little deer home. However, they were too lazy to ask; after all, there was plenty of space in the house, so they figured they might as well keep it.
The next morning, he led Xiao Xiao Bai, who was fitted with a collar and chain, to the feed barn. The moose were munching on hay. Yegor approached and said, "Village Chief, we don't have much aquatic vegetation here. These guys have big appetites; I doubt we can keep them for long."
"Aquatic vegetation?" Xu Li scratched his head as he moved back and forth in front of the large animals. Finally, he stood before the biggest male moose and slapped its head as it buried itself in its food. "Weren't you tough yesterday?"
"We noble and free moose will never be slaves!" The male moose chewed its food defiantly.
"Unless you provide all our meals and accommodations!" it added.
Xu Li twitched his mouth. "But you're too picky! I can't keep feeding you for long. How about this: you can stay, but leave two of the Little Guys behind."
"Come on! How can you say that?" The moose was dissatisfied. "Yesterday you insisted on catching us, and today you're complaining about our appetite? Where's the fairness in that? Let me tell you, it's easy to catch us, but letting us go is another story. This place has plenty of food and drink; we’re not going anywhere!"
"You won't get away from us," another moose chimed in.
"We'll eat you out of house and home!"
"You bully my child; I’ll consume all your food for revenge!"
The other moose glared at Xu Li angrily while continuing to chew their food. Xu Li rolled his eyes and unfastened the collar from Xiao Xiao Bai's neck. The Little Guy immediately hopped over to a low fence gate, joyfully bouncing around. "Mommy! Mommy!"
"Yes, keep bouncing for now; I'll play with you once I'm done eating," came the dismissive reply from a doe as she continued munching.
Xiao Xiao Bai happily bounced around while Xu Li pondered for a moment before pulling Yegor outside. "Is this kind of deer good to eat?"
"It’s definitely delicious," Yegor nodded earnestly. "There aren’t many kinds of deer meat that taste bad; they all taste pretty similar."
Xu Li nodded as he left the feed barn and returned to his office. Marina quickly prepared hot tea for him and locked the door behind her. By the time she left his office, her legs felt like noodles. Back in the shared office with a few others, she flopped into a chair and sighed, "I can't take it anymore! I don't know how you manage to hold on, Daria."
Daria shot her a glare, annoyed. "Who told you to hog everything?"
Meanwhile, Xu Li contacted several experts in ecology, planning to conduct a thorough exploration of the forest behind the ranch to see if it could be slightly modified. He had just checked the price of venison in the country, which was about thirty yuan per pound.
