"Are you not satisfied with this song?" Xu Li asked, leaning back in his chair with a frown. On the other end of the phone, Xu Lei hurriedly explained, "It's not that I'm dissatisfied; it's just that the quality of these songs is so high. Instead of wasting them on this show, it would be better to save them for later when they can really shine!"
With a snap, he lit a cigarette and continued, "This time, Blueberry Station is launching two segments: the Youth Idol Group and Ming Battle. Lao Si and Old Five can only go with the idol group. You should save the songs you've written for them to perform at the International Music Festival; who knows, they might even win first place!"
"I see," Xu Li nodded. "Then I'll rewrite two songs. What kind do you want? Cheerful, fresh, energetic, or danceable?"
"Definitely danceable! These two kids need fans right now, and dance tracks can quickly gather a large following. With their looks and figures, trust me..." Xu Lei rambled on for over ten minutes, practically planning out every hour of Lao Si and Old Five's schedule. His enthusiasm was more intense than that of their father. He chuckled, "I got it; the songs will be fine, but the choreography is up to you."
"Don't worry! I won't let my nephews down. I'll find a world-class dance team right away; I have plenty of money to throw at them."
After hanging up the phone, Xu Li lit another cigarette and began selecting songs from another world—dance tracks that could quickly attract fans. The Koreans were indeed impressive in this regard, with catchy melodies paired with outstanding looks and synchronized dance moves. Lost in thought, he started writing down lyrics.
Meanwhile, after finishing his call with Xu Li, Xu Lei immediately contacted a dance team, insisting on one thing: they had to be top-notch—money was no object!
Over the past two months, Pinnacle Entertainment had dominated the current Chinese pop charts thanks to artists like Wang Xinlin and Zhang Shaohan who performed Xu Li's songs. Their numerous endorsements and gigs had him living comfortably.
As evening approached, Xu Jiaguo and Xu Jiaping walked into his office carrying their deflated backpacks. They flopped onto the sofa, and two office girls who had been prepared quickly brought over snacks and freshly squeezed juice. They sneaked a glance at the handsome brothers before quietly exiting the office.
"Why did Second Uncle call us here?" Xu Jiaping asked while munching on a snack and watching Xu Lei smoke contentedly.
Xu Lei grinned widely. "You guys are about to participate in a show! Aren't you excited? Hahaha!"
"Really? Second Uncle?" Xu Jiaguo stopped eating and sat up at the desk. "But we have so much schoolwork every day! Those teachers are relentless; they never give us a break. As soon as English class ends, we jump straight into math. Even though we only have six hours of classes a day, I feel more exhausted than when we're at school."
"Just hang in there," Xu Lei said as he assessed his nephews while lighting another cigarette. "Your dad is right; knowledge may not change a person's fate, but lacking knowledge is definitely not an option. If you become famous but people find out you didn't even graduate high school, how will you survive in the entertainment industry?"
"Isn't it too early for us to debut?" Xu Jiaping asked while enjoying his snack and leaning against the desk.
"If we really become famous, what about college?" he added.
"Of course you'll go to college," Xu Lei replied while brushing off some ash from his cigarette. "But you'll attend a music academy for more systematic music training."
Ding dong.
His computer pinged with a new email notification. When he opened it, his eyes nearly popped out. A call made at around ten in the morning had resulted in five complete songs by five-thirty in the afternoon. Wow, this guy is impressive!
After printing out the sheet music and lyrics for the five songs, he picked up the landline and dialed an internal number: "Director Liu, please come to my office."
