Zhuo Ya adjusted his aim slightly before pulling the trigger. With a sharp crack, a wild bird fell from the sky. Xiao Bai immediately dashed forward, picked up the bird, and trotted over to Xu Li, dropping the half-dead creature at his feet while rubbing his big head against Xu Li's calf.
Xu Li placed the large Hu Tou on his lap and smiled at the motionless Li Na. "This is Xiao Bai. I found him when I was chasing away his mother. Later, she kept coming to my farm looking for food. I felt sorry for him, so I decided to take him in to help watch over the farm."
Li Na listened attentively.
Da Qiang chimed in, "Meow meow meow?"
Da Zha Ge looked puzzled.
Xiao Bai lay there, and the three of them were too afraid to move. They gently patted his head, letting him play on his own. Once he had run off far enough, Li Na and the others finally breathed a sigh of relief and adjusted their mindset to continue with the interview.
The three rested at the farm that day. Da Qiang didn't carry the camera, but Da Zha Ge pulled out his phone and started filming Li Na from behind. Xu Li and Da Qiang were smoking nearby. "What does that guy do?" Xu Li asked.
Da Qiang grinned. "He's Zhao Chuan, Li Na's boyfriend and also from our unit. He’s responsible for providing protection for reporters when they go out or acting as a driver and translator. Don’t let his quiet demeanor fool you; this guy can really fight. Last year when we encountered some thugs while traveling, he took them down in no time. One even tried to sneak up on Li Na, and he ended up breaking that guy's arm."
Xu Li nodded but didn’t say anything more. He led Da Qiang to the gym's shooting range, where Da Qiang was stunned to see that all four walls had been converted into weapon racks filled with various mainstream firearms. Xu Li patted him on the shoulder and asked, "Want to give it a try?"
"Yes! Absolutely!" Da Qiang exclaimed excitedly.
His grin stretched wide as he picked up a Barrett rifle and began to laugh foolishly. "Hehehe, this is the real deal!"
The two headed to the shooting range, where under Xu Li's guidance, Da Qiang fired off two magazines but soon clutched his shoulder, refusing to shoot anymore. Their gunfire attracted Li Na and Zhao Chuan, who looked on as Xu Li disdainfully observed Da Qiang wincing in pain. "You’ve wasted all that muscle."
As he spoke, Xu Li skillfully changed magazines and pulled back the bolt with one hand before taking aim and firing rapidly. By the time he emptied the magazine, the wooden target across from him had been completely shattered. Zhao Chuan stared wide-eyed in disbelief while Li Na gaped with her mouth open for a long time.
As for Da Qiang? He stood there looking utterly bewildered.
"Let’s go; I’ll take you all for a sauna," Xu Li suggested.
By evening, after a long day of activities, the three were feeling tired. Xu Li invited them into the Sauna Room. Da Qiang had an average build and didn’t have much to show off, but Zhao Chuan’s muscular physique was impressive.
Li Na wore a small felt hat while chatting with Anna and Eva. Xu Li adjusted the valve before stepping into the Sauna Room wearing only a felt hat and baggy shorts.
Zhao Chuan glanced at Xu Li's exaggerated physique and the numerous scars covering his body; his face twitched in disbelief. He couldn't imagine how this man had survived such injuries—five large scars on his belly were surrounded by countless stitches.
"Brother Xu, weren’t you scared facing that brown bear?" Zhao Chuan finally asked.
He had only touched on this topic during yesterday’s interview; some questions were too direct for Li Na to ask.
Xu Li paused for a moment before laughing softly. "Back then, I was only half a head taller than you and not as muscular either—how could I not be scared?"
He turned to glance at his wife across from him and sighed before saying to Zhao Chuan and Da Qiang, "No matter how scared you are, you have to step up. My two wives were so terrified they couldn’t move; I couldn’t just watch them get eaten alive—better one of us die than all three."
Da Qiang gave him a thumbs-up in admiration. "Pure manliness!"
"Ah, it’s nothing special," Xu Li shrugged off modestly.
He waved his hand casually. "People are like springs; when you compress a spring to a certain extent, it will bounce back. On one side is your beloved wife, and on the other is the fear that can be quite daunting. Any man would choose."
Looking at the smiling Li Na, he couldn't help but smile back, choosing not to say more. Da Qiang, on the other hand, was quite the talker and ensured that the atmosphere remained lively.
