Ten million!
The overweight man looked at Xu Li with pleading eyes. "Is ten million okay? A million for each child; this is all we have."
Xu Li scoffed. "Your son’s jewelry alone is worth over seven hundred thousand, and here you are crying poor?"
He pointed to himself with his thumb. "I have over a hundred thousand acres of land, more than ten thousand cattle, and countless sheep. Do you think I care about your measly amount? You’re just trying to throw pennies at me."
Another man, Zhong Ren, tightened his fists. "Just give us a number."
They settled on ten million dollars, to be transferred to this card before dark.
Xu Li slapped an unregistered card onto the coffee table and then waved the bag in his hand. "Keep your mouths shut and take these two little bastards back. If I hear any rumors, I want ten thousand dollars; I can make your entire family disappear."
Forget about ten thousand dollars; even ten thousand yuan would be enough for someone to take the risk.
In the end, the two little brats were taken away by their mother, who signed the contract and left her fingerprints. Xu Li put everything away and tossed the card to Ivan. "You take half; the rest is yours. Small favors only earn you temporary gratitude, not lifelong loyalty!"
Ivan grinned as he accepted the card. "Since it’s easy money, I’ll be generous this time."
"By the way, how's Boyka doing?"
Xu Li and Ivan, now wearing their coats, walked out of the police station. As they settled into the car, Xu Li shifted in his seat. "I feel like this car is a bit small."
Ivan shot him a glare. "Why don’t you mention that you’ve bulked up again? This car was a gift from you; now you’re complaining about it?"
As they drove slowly through the old streets, Ivan continued, "Lao Qi isn’t doing well either. After his father-in-law stepped down, those old connections have gradually faded away. Now he’s just biding his time."
He was just at the right age for Fu Liqiang; it would be a shame to waste that.
Xu Li thought for a moment. "How about I send him some money to help him network?"
But he’s in a good position now; the logistics department doesn’t require him on the front lines, and it’s an easy job. It’s fine as it is.
Ivan waved his hand as if to say something but Xu Li interrupted with a laugh. "How old is the Emperor now? How much longer can he hold that position? Once he steps down, there will inevitably be internal adjustments. They could easily push him into obscurity."
Boyka is articulate and capable; he has a way of winning people over and holds real power—who would dare move against him? Perhaps they might even promote him to gain his favor later on. You need to think long-term, brother; otherwise, how will you stay in this director position for more than ten years?
"I just don’t want to leave my family."
Xu Li chuckled at Ivan's stubbornness. "Alright then, I’ll call Boyka and have a good chat with him; no need for you to worry about it."
Ivan grinned but fell silent as they drove through the old city, gradually disappearing into the night.
With a click, as the living room lights turned on, Xu Li groggily called out, "Zhuo Ya! Zhuo Ya!"
That girl must have gone out to play; I’ll keep you company for a while.
Sister-in-law helped Xu Li to the sofa with great effort. Once seated, Xu Li rubbed his face and said, "You should head back first. Big Brother and Valentin are drinking even more, and Safna is probably overwhelmed. I can manage here just fine."
