"You really don't want to lose out, do you? You've gained two favors in one go."
In response to his wife's teasing, Alexander waved his hand dismissively. "Let's not talk about that. Shouldn't we be heading home? I'm not used to staying here all day."
"Then we’ll go back tomorrow. Our daughter will go with Nikola to Bratsk."
"No, I don't want to!"
Alexander let out a loud shout, causing Angelina, who was brushing her teeth, to scream in surprise. With foam around her mouth, she glared at her father. "I want to go! If you don’t let me, I’ll cry!"
"How old are you? Don’t you know how treacherous the world can be?" He continued to scold her with a long-winded lecture. "So listen to your dad, let’s wait a few years before going, okay?"
"I don’t want to! I have to get up early tomorrow for the flight. I want to ride bears and wrestle tigers! I don’t want to stay home and draw!"
Angelina gave her father a playful shove and went back to the bathroom to continue brushing her teeth. Alexander raised his hand as if to say something but ultimately let it drop helplessly, looking at his wife with a face full of reluctance. "What do you think?"
"I think it's a good idea."
Yelena kissed her husband on the cheek. "We were about the same age when we met. If I hadn’t pursued you after that party, you would be someone else’s husband by now. Nikola is so much better than you were back then; our daughter needs to win his heart early, or else she’ll just end up hating you for life!"
Thinking back to their youthful happiness, Alexander pulled his wife tightly into his arms. She had come from a well-off family in the area but had chosen him without hesitation. Over the years, she had helped him raise their children and occasionally offered unique insights into his business. He loved her deeply but respected her even more.
Since it was his wife's idea for their daughter to go, he had no choice but to agree. He sniffed deeply into her hair and said, "Let’s get some rest early tonight; with our daughter not around, we can enjoy some time alone together."
"Thank you, my dear."
"If anyone should be thanking anyone, it’s me thanking you. Without you, there would be no Alexander!"
He swept his wife up in his arms, and amidst her surprised squeals, he hurried into the bedroom and shut the door behind them.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
Xu Weihua and Xu Weixia joyfully hugged Eva as she came to pick them up. Eva kissed both boys on the cheek. "You must be tired from the ride; let’s hurry home. Your dad is busy slaughtering cattle and sheep right now."
"Mom, this is my girlfriend Angelina."
Xu Weixia released Eva and pulled the shy girl beside him forward. Eva looked incredulously at her son and then at Angelina's slightly blushing face before quickly bending down to hug the girl. "Sorry, dear; I thought you were just a visitor!"
"Auntie, I’m Angelina."
Feeling the pressure of Eva's impressive figure against her own, Angelina suddenly felt a wave of insecurity wash over her; the contrast felt like comparing a fried egg to a small watermelon—too much for her self-esteem!
"Come on, Auntie Eva, let's get in the car quickly so we don't catch a cold," said the little girl.
Eva held the girl's slightly cold hand and hurried out of the bus station. She opened the door to her SUV.
"Wow, what a beautiful car!" Angelina exclaimed, her mouth forming a small 'O' of surprise.
"Hehe, just wait! Once we get home, Auntie will teach you how to drive," Eva replied with a smile.
