Ivanov opened the car door and pressed a button lightly. Immediately, a hidden compartment popped open, revealing a gun that he took out to inspect briefly before putting it back. "Each front seat of the car has one," he said, "and the gun permits have already been arranged for you."
Before Xu Li could express his gratitude, Ivanov continued seriously, "Mr. Makarov, there are four guns and eight magazines. Each bullet has its own code, so if anything happens, you'll know."
Xu Li nodded. "I just want it for my wife's self-defense. I hope more than anyone that I never have to use this thing."
Ivanov grinned and shook Xu Li's hand. "Then let's have a pleasant cooperation."
"Indeed, a pleasant cooperation," Xu Li echoed.
The two waved goodbye to Xu Li and quickly hailed a taxi, disappearing from sight. Xu Li picked up the Co-Driver documents and glanced through them. Upon opening, he found a gun permit tucked inside, complete with Eva's photo and identification. He skimmed through the rest of the documents; everything was in order.
He took the car keys to the store, asking the clerk to wrap the gift box. With the fresh flowers and gift box in hand, he made his way to the mall's resting area, where he spotted Anna and her friends chatting in a corner.
Misha, Anna, and Eva looked at him in disbelief as Xu Li handed them the flowers. "I brought you a gift; shall we go take a look?"
Eva quickly gathered her things, taking the flowers and gift box outside. Anna happily gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before following suit. Zhuo Ya pouted and pointed at the shopping bags by her feet. "Dad, how are we going to carry all this?"
Xu Li squatted down to help his daughter put on her shoes. "No worries; let Peter make a couple of trips."
That said, he took hold of the larger items while Zhuo Ya and Peter carried two bags each. They walked out of the mall with light steps, chatting and laughing with Old Father. Anna and Eva waved at them from inside the car as Zhuo Ya climbed into Anna's matte black vehicle while Peter hopped into Eva's warrior black one. The two children excitedly ran around the cars.
Watching his wife and daughters laugh joyfully filled Xu Li with warmth as he smiled slightly before getting into his Menzhishandai. The three cars quickly vanished from the crowd's view. A student from Huaxia recorded a video of them and uploaded it online because Xu Li's face was so recognizable.
That night, he felt very happy; his wife took great care of him.
"Auntie, try this," Xu Weixia said as she plated some marinated beef and handed it to Yelena, who was sitting on the sofa chatting with Zhuo Ya. Meanwhile, Angelina pouted in dissatisfaction beside them. "I'm your girlfriend; you should give me some first."
"Oh, then you should try some too."
He smiled shyly, which made Angelina scrunch her nose at him playfully. "Hmph, not very sincere."
Yelena took a piece of beef and gave a thumbs-up to the shy young man. "This is really good! Your uncle can enjoy beef while drinking a bottle of wine."
"Hehehe," Xu Weixia chuckled happily as she saw mother and daughter enjoying their meal. She returned to the kitchen to continue her preparations. Soon enough, dinner was ready, but when she saw Angelina and Yelena already seated at the dining table, she was surprised. "Aren't we waiting for Uncle?"
