"May God bless this brave young man!"
Andrei, feeling restless, rummaged through his pockets. He remembered that Natasha had just handed him her phone. If it wasn't on the right side, it had to be on the left. Pulling out the phone, he searched through his contacts while driving and quickly pressed the call button. "Lao San, get to the hospital now and call an ambulance. Have them bring Panda Blood and head towards Our Family."
Vasily, who was checking the cargo list, froze at the words. "Who got hurt?"
"It's Misha. We were just logging together. I went home to unload the wood, and Anna and the others were bringing us food when we ran into a bear. Suka Blyat!"
"Is my sister okay?"
Andrei gripped the steering wheel tightly, feeling a surge of anger as he cursed under his breath. "Stop with the damn questions and find an ambulance!"
After hanging up, Andrei continued driving while asking, "How's Misha holding up?"
Popov placed his index finger under Xu Li's nose to check for breath and sighed in relief. "Breathing is steady, but you need to hold on tight; the kid is losing too much blood."
Damn this bumpy road; how much longer can it take?
Andrei was even more anxious than Popov since he was looking after his future son-in-law. Every few moments during the drive, Andrei would ask again to ensure Xu Li was still alive until the ambulance arrived. Fortunately, Fortuna seemed to be looking out for Xu Li, this brave young man.
Beep beep beep!
After about half an hour on the main road, Vasily spotted a speeding old armored vehicle that he guessed must be theirs. He quickly turned around and chased after it, honking furiously as he drove alongside.
The armored vehicle slammed to a halt, nearly sending Popov flying with Xu Li in his arms. He stumbled forward, crashing against the iron plate in front of him, hitting his head hard—definitely a good knock.
Creak!
An ambulance pulled up behind both vehicles, and the driver poked his head out of the window. "Is this the patient's family?"
"Yes! Yes!" Vasily nodded eagerly and waved his hands. The back door of the ambulance swung open, and two nurses rushed over with a stretcher. Andrei opened the side door of the armored vehicle; the strong smell of blood made him frown as he glanced at Xu Li's pale lips. He quickly handed Xu Li over to Popov and carefully placed him on the stretcher. "Do you have blood bags? My son-in-law needs Panda Blood."
"We have it."
The two nurses were startled by Xu Li's condition but quickly loaded him into the ambulance while administering blood transfusions and IV fluids as they sped off towards Bratsk.
Vasily lit a cigarette for himself and Popov rubbed his sore neck. "Suka Blyat! You almost got me killed back there."
Andrei hugged him briefly. "Thanks for driving back, old friend. I need to stay at the hospital and check in with Natasha so she doesn't worry."
"Go on then."
Popov got into the armored vehicle without turning off the engine and slowly turned around to head back. Vasily was taking the old man to the hospital. Was Misha really that brave? He had cried when Popov had scared him just a little back then.
