The two sisters usually slept in until after eight, so they didn’t wait for them. After finishing breakfast, Andrei got up and headed to the locked storage room across the way. He picked out some well-maintained local specialties, three fully loaded magazines, and two unopened boxes of bullets. After thinking for a moment, he grabbed a knife before returning to the living room with his arms full. 0

With a clatter, Xu Li dropped the fried egg he had just bitten into onto his plate. His eyes widened at the sight of the local specialties on the table. Andrei patted his shoulder and said, "After you finish eating, I’ll teach you how to shoot. Yesterday afternoon, when Popov was driving off the sheep herd, we heard wolves howling. It seems like some wolves have wandered into our area. For now, stick close to Anna and Eva; don’t let them wander off." 0

"Okay!" Xu Li nodded eagerly. 0

He stuffed a few bites of fried egg and a large piece of beef into his mouth, gulping down milk while standing next to Andrei with his cheeks puffed out. He looked longingly at the man’s ultimate dream. Andrei chuckled and took the items outside, with Xu Li following closely behind while clutching the two boxes of bullets. 0

They arrived at the edge of the farmland behind the yard. Andrei opened a gate leading to a low fence, and Xu Li realized there was a small river behind the yard. Andrei explained as he held onto it: "This is the safety catch; pushing it up locks the trigger, one notch down is single shot, and pulling it all the way back is for automatic fire." 0

As he spoke, he demonstrated by pressing down on the trigger: bang! 0

The shell casing rolled to Xu Li's feet, and the smell of gunpowder wafted into his nose. His initially excited eyes suddenly cleared up as Old Russian adjusted the safety to its lowest setting: bang bang bang! 0

Water splashed up from the river surface as Old Russian emptied the magazine and handed the gun to Xu Li: "You change the magazine while I watch." 0

"Alright!" Xu Li grinned and squatted down. Under Andrei's guidance, he changed the magazine nervously, aiming carefully before biting his lip and pulling the trigger: bang bang! 0

Both fell silent for a moment. Xu Li looked at his father-in-law with wide eyes: "Dad, why isn’t it firing?" 0

"You didn’t chamber a round; it wouldn’t fire even if it wanted to," Andrei replied impatiently as he grabbed Xu Li's hand to chamber a bullet. They stood in position together as he adjusted the stock against Xu Li's shoulder, shaking his head slightly: "Look at you; you're as skinny as a twig—just bones." 0

"But I’m trying hard to eat meat!" Xu Li protested, feeling quite wronged. 0

Andrei pressed his thick finger against Xu Li's index finger: bang bang bang! 0

A burst of bullets fired off, and Xu Li couldn’t help but inhale sharply as his shoulder throbbed from the impact of the stock. Andrei released him but kept his right hand pressed against half of the gun: "I’ll hold down the barrel; you try again." 0

"Okay." 0

Xu Li pushed the stock forward slightly and pulled the trigger again: bang bang bang! 0

The powerful recoil nearly made him lose grip on the shaking rifle. Ignoring his father-in-law’s disdainful look, Xu Li excitedly fired two shots in one direction and then emptied another magazine in another direction until both magazines were cleared. Finally, he squatted down eagerly on the ground and looked up at his father-in-law: "Dad, how do you open this bullet box?" 0
