Less than half an hour later, Ivan cheerfully got into the car and handed a document bag to the man in the back seat. "Welcome to our home." 0

The car drove north, and when Xu Li groggily woke up, he found himself sitting next to two burly Slavic men. One of them waved a gun in front of him. "Just behave." 0

"I still have over thirty thousand Rubles on me. If you want money, just take it all," Xu Li thought to himself, feeling unlucky. The man beside him squinted his eyes. "You’re quite wealthy for a little helper." 0

"Most of it is living expenses from my family," Xu Li replied. 0

This made the three men in the car frown. "Old Anton said this kid was all alone. Now he’s talking about money from home—aren’t they just digging their own graves?" 0

"But I haven't been in touch with my family for a long time," Xu Li added, rubbing the back of his head. "If you think you can kidnap me to get money from my family, you can forget it. My father would rather I never show up in front of him again." 0

"Why is that?" Ivan raised an eyebrow while driving. "What kind of parents hate their own child? Did you do something really wrong?" 0

"I made my mom furious," Xu Li explained. "She rebuilt her family with her lover, and my brother often mocks me about it. I couldn’t help but hit him, and that’s how I ended up here for school." 0

As he spoke, Xu Li's eyes began to redden. He started rummaging through his pockets when the man on his right produced a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, shaking them slightly. "Smoking at your age isn’t good for your health." 0

Ignoring him, Xu Li took a cigarette, lit it, and slowly smoked it. After finishing his cigarette, the burly man pulled out a black cloth bag and placed it over Xu Li's head. 0

The barking of dogs woke a dazed Xu Li as Ivan removed the black bag from his head and patted his pale face. "We're home." 0

"Home?" 0

Xu Li rubbed his eyes as he got out of the car. What he saw resembled a rural village in China—several large dogs chained up, glaring at him with fierce eyes that made him feel uneasy. 0

After being cooped up in the car for over twenty hours, he urgently needed to relieve himself. Ivan led him to a small wooden shed. "There’s paper inside." 0

While in the outhouse, he thought of several escape plans, but they all succumbed to his weakened state. The long journey and lack of food left him starving; there was no way he had the strength to run away. 0

When he finally emerged, he noticed some older people had arrived in the yard. They were all staring at him curiously as Ivan spoke with a few old men. When he saw Xu Li come out, he waved him over. 0

"This is my dad, Andrei," Ivan said. "From now on, he'll be your dad too." 0

"Huh?" Xu Li looked at the elderly man before him who could easily pass for his grandfather and then back at the serious Ivan. "You’re not planning to use me as an organ donor, are you?" 0
