"House, car, money, and love—what do you want that I haven't given you? Now you're going to find a man to marry and tell me: you just want a child?"
"Yes, I want a child. Can you give me one?"
She faced me defiantly, stubborn as a mule.
"Jiang Lu, do you think I'm particularly foolish and easy to deceive?"
I almost let out a bitter laugh. This was the woman I had loved for seven years, with whom I had lived for three years, sharing cats and watching the sea and stars together.
The seven-year itch—could it really come for us too?
From our first year of high school to graduating from university, we had experienced all the important turning points in life together. She wanted to pursue further studies while I worked, supporting our little home alone.
We had overcome so many difficulties together; now, when we had everything, how could she just say she wanted to separate? My heart raced with anger, and I felt like I might spit blood.
Jiang Lu looked flustered; I didn't miss the flicker of worry in her eyes. She still loved me—why did she want to leave?
"Are you okay? Take your medicine first." She quickly found my usual pill bottle and skillfully poured out several types of tablets.
Blue, white, green—we both liked green because it was the color of life.
"I won't take them unless you stay." I was determined to be unreasonable, to make a scene—so what if I did?
She stared at me with a smile; her lips were turned up, but her eyes were filled with sorrow.
She said nothing.

"Wu Huan ❤ Jiang Lu, let's conquer the world together."
Back then, we were both incredibly busy.
I was busy working to earn money while she was busy studying for exams.
On my desk sat the cactus she had given me; on her writing desk was the blind box I had left for her as encouragement.
Love knows no time limit.
But when feelings run deep, who would believe that true hearts can change in an instant?
So, what is portrayed in the dramas and told in fairy tales is all a lie. Love is something that cannot be grasped; even if a prince and princess overcome countless obstacles to be together, it doesn’t guarantee they will live happily ever after.
Moreover, we are princesses to each other, and at times, we are each other's knights.
"You don't believe that I don't love you anymore, do you?" Jiang Lu's body temperature was at thirty-six degrees, but the words that came out of her mouth were colder than a stone in the icy wilderness.
"Children can be adopted if you..." I tried to reach for her hand like before, but Jiang Lu skillfully avoided me, not even allowing me to finish my sentence.
"Wu Huan, fine. Let me say this seriously: I don’t love you anymore. Let’s break up."
Her voice fell as she turned and walked into her study. The door wasn’t locked, but I no longer had the right to enter freely.
What was it that made Jiang Lu know some man? She was clearly with me every day. Besides, she hated children so much; how could she suddenly want one?
On the coffee table in the living room lay the porridge I had cooked that morning, still warm. I gulped down a few big mouthfuls; how could plain porridge taste salty? Unconsciously, I licked my lips and realized it was the taste of tears.
I met Jiang Lu in high school but had known her since junior high. She liked to wear shirt dresses, and at that age, kids cared a lot about others' opinions. There were always those who would gossip behind her back about how flamboyant she was, but I knew they were just jealous and envious—too obvious.
They envied her bravery and admired her beauty and freedom. Whenever she wanted, she could wear any elegantly tailored shirt dress and simply throw on a school uniform jacket to go to class.
Jiang Lu's mother was a gentle lady and an independent designer, which meant Jiang Lu had an endless supply of new clothes. Unlike her peers, she didn’t care about others' opinions at all. This fifteen-year-old girl seemed to have grasped early on the truth that "people live for themselves."
At that time, I was still a good student—the model student in the eyes of classmates and teachers—without any particular hobbies. My life followed a set path until I encountered her in a bookstore.
Perhaps my life would have been as calm as water without that meeting. I am a firm materialist, but regarding my fate with Jiang Lu—I believe we are destined to be together.
"Committee member, what a coincidence to see you here." As I carefully selected an eraser, Jiang Lu was frantically waving at me.
Unfortunately, I didn't see her at all, nor did I hear her voice.
It wasn't until she gently tapped my shoulder that I turned around and realized I wasn't the only one faking an illness.
"Good afternoon, Jiang Lu."
