Chen Yang walked out of the operating room.
“How is she?” I rushed to ask.
He removed his mask, his expression serious. “She’s temporarily out of danger, but she still needs to be observed in the ICU for a few days.”
I let out a sigh of relief.
Thank goodness, my mom is still alive.
“Thank goodness…” Lin Shuang wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. “That really scared me just now.”
“The patient’s condition was critical; I truly thought she…”
I fell silent.
If it weren’t for Mi You’s orders, Lin Shuang would have let me go long ago.
We wouldn’t have been delayed for so long.
But I no longer dared to trust Mi You.
She was too ruthless.
Dad walked over and patted my shoulder. “Luo Feng, if you want a divorce, Dad supports you.”
“Mi You isn’t worthy of being our family’s daughter-in-law.”
I nodded. “I understand.”
“I’m sorry,” Lin Shuang approached me. “I shouldn’t have treated you that way just now.”
I shook my head. “It’s fine.”
“Mi You ordered me not to let you go under any circumstances.”
She forced a smile. “But I didn’t expect things to get this serious…”
I paused for a moment. “Officer Lin, do you also think Mi You was wrong?”
She sighed. “Don’t blame her; she had no choice.”
“Ji Zhaoyuan has a mental illness, and Mi You is in a difficult position.”
“Besides, the whole fire department knows that Mi You doesn’t like you…”
I was taken aback. Ji Zhaoyuan had mental health issues, I knew that. But she wasn't the type to be a coward and commit suicide. In my past life, Mi You told me that Ji Zhaoyuan had no family, only her to rely on. So I always thought Mi You took care of her out of pity. But now it seemed— I was too naive. Everyone knew Mi You had no feelings for me. Only I was left in the dark.
Memories crashed over me like waves. Three years ago, I confessed my feelings to Mi You. She rejected me, saying, "I admire you, but I don't want to be in a relationship." "Why?" I asked. She shook her head, "I already have someone I like."
Mi You's rejection didn't discourage me because I knew she only had eyes for Ji Zhaoyuan. They had grown up together, their bond was deep. I didn't mind it until one fateful day—I discovered that the person Mi You liked was Ji Zhaoyuan. Her rejection was merely a way to keep her relationship with Ji Zhaoyuan private.
I initially thought there was no chance for me and Mi You anymore. But then something happened that changed our relationship entirely. Ji Zhaoyuan liked a woman, but that woman liked me.
In a fit of anger, I deliberately created a scene and falsely accused me of raping her. I was taken to the police station for questioning, but in the end, my innocence was proven.
The woman who had feelings for me felt guilty because of this incident. She apologized and told me that Mi You had actually been secretly in love with me. I didn't believe it.
"But you can ask Mi You yourself!" she insisted. So, I went to ask her.
Mi You was taken aback for a moment. "Who told you that?" she asked.
"Is it true?" I pressed. She didn’t answer, only gazed deeply into my eyes. In that moment, I was overwhelmed and confessed, "Since you like me, let's be together!"
Mi You consented.
Later, I found out that she agreed to be with me only because I was the son of the director. She had never truly liked me. Ji Zhaoyuan was her real love. All my efforts and sincerity became a joke in her eyes.
Now, she has completely grown to despise me. It's time for a divorce. It was clearly a destined outcome from the start.
