As I noticed my boyfriend, who was gripping his chopsticks tightly out of jealousy, I couldn't help but smile with satisfaction before gracefully withdrawing from the scene.
After dinner, I walked alongside He Yang, watching our roommate leave, and we strolled leisurely down the road. Suddenly, I patted my head in annoyance and apologized.
“Look at me, I completely forgot that the teacher asked me to go to his office this afternoon to verify the experimental data! I'm so sorry, but I can't accompany you to the movies today.”
“It’s fine; your studies come first. We can watch the movie anytime,” He Yang replied, feigning regret, but I could clearly see the corners of his mouth twitching in a way that suggested otherwise.
“What about the movie tickets we bought? Can we still refund them? We shouldn't waste them,” I pretended to be troubled.
“How about I take a leave and go with you to watch the movie? It’s Qixi Festival after all; the teacher will understand!” he suggested eagerly.
“No way!” he blurted out, refusing me immediately and then lecturing me with a serious tone.
“How can you let a little romance affect your studies? If the teacher gets a bad impression of you, it will be hard to recover from that later!”
“You're right; just one wrong choice can make it difficult to regain a good impression!” I smiled at him and nodded as he mentioned going back to the dorm to play games.
When I returned to the dorm, I ran into Xu Jiaying, who hurriedly packed her things after receiving a phone call.
I knew what was going on and took my time applying some lipstick. This lipstick was actually a bold red that Xu Jiaying had given me after she switched hers out; it was striking but added a touch of elegance.
Guessing that the two of them had probably already met up, I glanced at the time before slowly speaking up.
“By the way, my boyfriend said he wants to treat us to a movie. He’s already there; we should go now—it’s perfect timing!”
Our dorm never missed out on free perks like this. Sure enough, as soon as I finished speaking, my other two roommates sprang up eagerly and urged me on.
“Why didn’t you say so earlier? I wouldn’t have changed clothes! What time is the movie? It’s a pity Jiajia is missing out; what if she can’t make it? I’ll call her right now!”
They were regretting not being able to take advantage of this opportunity like it was their last chance.
“She has a boyfriend; does she really have time for us on Qixi? Let’s hurry; she’s probably having a more exciting time than both of you single dogs!”
I quickly stopped her jokingly; could she really think she could spill secrets in front of me?
I never expected myself to be so observant. As soon as we entered the cinema, my gaze landed on two people huddled together in a corner.
Xu Jiaying was sitting on He Yang's lap, nestled comfortably in his embrace while his hand disappeared under her clothing, looking as intimate as conjoined twins.
Xu Jiaying held a cupcake in her hand, licking the white cream on top. As she continued to lick, she accidentally brushed her lips against He Yang's.
In that moment, all suspicions fell away.
I had known the outcome all along, but when faced with the reality, I couldn't help but feel a sharp pain in my chest.
No one seemed to find anything wrong with the sticky little couple; instead, I stood frozen in place, becoming the biggest joke of all.
I watched helplessly as they embraced and nibbled at each other for a long time, until Xu Jiaying caught sight of me in her peripheral vision. Her expression changed instantly, and she hurriedly pushed He Yang away and stood up.
"Su Yi, what are you doing here? Don't misunderstand! I was just... just... nothing happened between us! Please don't overthink it!"
He Yang furrowed his brow and looked over at me, his face showing clear irritation and frustration.
"Su Yi, what’s going on? Didn’t you say you weren’t coming? Why are you sneaking around here? Are you following us on purpose? When did you become so devious?"
