After finishing the meal, it was already deep into the night when Shi Tian returned to the villa area. However, Shi Chui and Yi Laotou were still awake, waiting for him, which made Shi Tian feel a bit anxious. It wasn’t a good sign for them to be blocking him at this hour.
“Master, why aren’t you resting so late?” He grabbed two bottles of water from the kitchen and pushed against the front door to check if it was unlocked. As long as his escape route wasn’t cut off, things would be fine. If Yi Laotou or Shi Chui intended to deal with him, at least he had a way out.
What could Yi Laotou possibly want at this hour? Did he find out about Hong Shun frying chili peppers? That shouldn’t be the case! Scallion Ginger Fishy wouldn’t spill the beans, and Hong Shun hadn’t suffered any consequences either, so he wouldn’t tell anyone. Besides, no one else knew about it!
“Let’s get up early tomorrow and head to Dongfang City. Your dad wants to move the Import and Export Company over; he needs help checking the feng shui.” As Yi Laotou spoke, Shi Tian felt a lot more at ease.
Did they really need to block him here for that? A phone call would suffice! If that didn’t work, Shi Chui could just tell him!
“Alright then, I’ll make breakfast in the morning and call you over. After we eat, we can go together.” Shi Tian quickly opened the door for Yi Laotou.
As they stepped outside, Yi Laotou suddenly stopped and turned back to stare at Shi Tian. “Have you been stealing shrimp from my Fish Pond again?”
Yi Laotou had raised quite a few shrimp in his yard and fed them daily with Shi Ban feed. However, the more he fed them, the fewer there seemed to be. This led Yi Laotou and Shi Chui to check the surveillance footage all night without finding the shrimp thief.
The shrimp in his yard weren’t very big; they were still too small for bait. If he wanted to catch Shi Ban, there were plenty of larger ones in Air Force Yard that Shi Tian should have gone after instead.
“Master, why would I steal your shrimp? The ones you raised are hardly bigger than Fish Hooks; they’re useless!” Shi Tian denied it, puzzled. Had Yi Laotou’s shrimp really been stolen? Was there a thief in the villa area? That didn’t seem right!
No outsiders could get into the villa area; even guests from the hotel couldn’t come over. Besides, if someone did manage to come over, they wouldn’t run into Yi Laotou’s yard to steal shrimp!
“Master, could it be that there’s a hole in the mesh at the Fish Pond’s drainage outlet and all the shrimp escaped?” Following Yi Laotou back to his yard, Shi Tian thought for a long time about those shrimp that had just been weaned. It was unlikely that someone had stolen them; most likely, they had swum out into Adult Lake and become food for koi.
There was another possibility: koi might have entered his Fish Pond. If that were the case, they could also prey on the shrimp.
“The mesh is fine; I’ve checked it several times. It’s double-layered; not a single shrimp could escape.” Holding a powerful flashlight, he rechecked the drainage outlet and confirmed it was indeed secure.
He scattered some Carp Bait and waited for half an hour without any movement on the water's surface. This meant there were no koi in this pond; it indicated that this thief was someone else.
After circling around the pond a few times while yawning, he sent Yi Laotou inside. Just as he turned around and shone his light on the water's surface, he saw a small nose dip below. If it weren’t for the ripples on the surface, Shi Tian would have doubted his eyesight.
He dashed to the edge of the fishing pond and splashed with a small Ping Net several times on the water’s surface. Standing on shore for half a minute, bubbles began to rise from beneath.
Hearing the commotion, Yi Laotou rushed out just as he was about to head upstairs.
“What is it?” Seeing Shi Tian pointing at the bubbles on the water's surface, Yi Laotou began calculating what bait he would need.
A large Wang Ba that he had caught over a year ago from Fu Wan Reservoir was now nearly three pounds. He had planned to cook it but hadn’t expected it to escape! After spending more than half a year in Adult Lake, he had even specially fed it some Mai Sui strips; who would have thought this creature had filled up on Xiao Yu and come here for better food!
Shi Tian learned this trick from Wang Ergou: Wang Ba usually surfaced every half hour or so for air. If one noticed a Wang Ba surfacing and causing a commotion in the water, waiting half a minute would typically lead it to start digging in the mud below.
