Hong Shun, this disciple, was taken in by Shi Tian without much thought. The moment he saw Yi Laotou, he called him Shiye, which made Yi Laotou feel quite comfortable. Just like that, Shi Tian found himself with an additional disciple, much like how Yi Laotou had once taken him on as a student.
Hong Shun started school late; although his academic performance was decent, two years of difference were not easy to catch up. Moreover, Shi Tian did not plan to take on disciples as casually as Yi Laotou did. Yi Laotou had only lost a bit of rent for a small stall, but if Shi Tian took in the wrong person, the consequences could be significant.
Looking at the iron shovel in his hand, Shi Tian shook his head slightly. After all this time, he found himself back in his old line of work. Hong Shun's filial piety was something Shi Tian truly could not bear; it meant hard work—real hard work!
“Boss, give me five skewers of squid!” Just as he was finishing up one order, another customer arrived.
“No more sales; we’re closing up!” Seeing more customers approach, Shi Tian quickly refused. These people were quite enthusiastic; they really thought he was selling squid!
“I’ve already paid!” A phone lit up with a payment notification. Shi Tian’s face darkened; the payment QR code was stuck right on the squid cart. He needed to find something to cover it up.
Hong Shun had a bit of filial piety, but not much. He was there to watch the stall while Shi Tian worked. It sounded nice—selling squid as a way of showing filial respect—but with that QR code stuck on the cart, it seemed like his filial piety was just for show!
He pulled out a disposable glove and used it to cover the QR code on the Squid Truck. He needed to block it before more people came over to scan it; otherwise, he would really end up selling squid.
After grilling a few skewers of squid, he finally prepared to close up when Yi Laotou strolled over with his hands behind his back.
“Give me ten skewers of squid; I want to see if your skills have declined recently!”
When Yi Laotou wanted squid, there was no way he would pay via QR code.
“Master, weren’t you just fishing over there? How did it go? Do you want me to cook some for you?” This old man was being deliberate; he had been fishing earlier and now rushed over as soon as he saw Shi Tian setting up the stall.
“Sure! I’ll go get the fish; you grill the squid for me first—I’m a bit hungry!”
As soon as Yi Laotou spoke, Shi Tian regretted it. Why did he have to provoke him out of boredom?
What was Yi Laotou even hungry for? He had already mentioned that he wasn’t hungry while entertaining Head Brother over the phone earlier.
Besides, how could Yi Laotou possibly go hungry here? There were ten shops in the food street where he could eat freely; any of those personal shops would line up just to treat him to a meal. As long as he asked, they would provide him with top-notch hospitality.
He was just deliberately making things difficult for himself because he saw that Mini Light Boat was going out to sea and didn’t invite him along!
“Master, eat less tonight; ten skewers of squid are enough! It’s not good to eat too much! You can have the squid, but if I have to grill fish for you too, that would be troublesome—it would definitely take at least half an hour from marinating to grilling.”
“Are you all going out to sea again? Where are you going fishing?” Ignoring Shi Tian’s words, Yi Laotou focused intently on him.
“I’m not going. They are heading to Xisha for a few days. I told them to take Hong Shun along so he can learn some culinary skills from his senior brothers.” To avoid grilling fish for Yi Laotou here, Shi Tian quickly explained.
Hearing that Shi Tian wasn’t going, Yi Laotou decided not to tag along either. After grilling five skewers perfectly, he took them back to his Fishing Spot.
