Steady the Rod, he turned to glance at the old men nearby. Thankfully, they showed no intention of coming over to snatch the Rod away, which was a relief! But why did he feel a twinge of disappointment? Shouldn't they have rushed over to grab the Rod, only for him to hold it tight and, with the strength of one arm, haul in the big fish, earning their cheers and admiration?
"Brother Jian Qiang, can you handle it? If you can, bring that fish in and shout for me to help you net it!" Seeing no one offering support, Shi Tian felt it necessary to give some acknowledgment to Brother Jian Qiang.
"Xiao Yu, if you can handle it, could you help me net it later?" Receiving this small bit of encouragement, Brother Jian Qiang quickly responded, increasing his effort as the Fishing Rod slowly lifted.
With a sudden exertion, a wave of sadness washed over him. He instinctively eased his grip, a reaction that came without thought. By the time he realized what had happened, the Rod had already angled out over twenty degrees.
This fishing technique needed an upgrade; perhaps he could borrow some of his wife's sanitary pads to cushion things. If he didn’t catch a few more big fish soon, he might end up as a eunuch!
A carp weighing five or six pounds took him over ten minutes to tire out. Just as he was drenched in sweat from the struggle, the fish shyly broke the surface to greet him before diving back down, causing Brother Jian Qiang to shiver again.
Seeing the fish surface, Shi Tian reeled in the Rod and approached with the Net. "Brother Jian Qiang, your Rod is like Reinforced Steel—solid! Hold strong; it won't break!"
"Is Xiao Yu really that gentle?" He glanced at the water's surface but saw no sign of the fish. Shi Tian reminded him.
"I can't hold on; I'm losing strength—this is painful!" Shaking his head and gritting his teeth, he felt pain shoot through his nerves as his strength drained away again.
What’s so painful about this? You were so happy catching all those Xiao Yu earlier; now that you’ve hooked a big fish, why are you feeling this way? Shi Tian shot back at Brother Jian Qiang. It seemed Brother Jian Qiang wasn’t one to be overly dramatic.
"Don’t think too much; I mean it literally! It’s just physical pain!" He quietly explained that fishing could be painful; if this got out, it would be embarrassing!
Upon hearing this explanation, Shi Tian understood. He looked at Brother Jian Qiang with sympathy but felt no guilt; this was something Brother Jian Qiang had insisted on himself—he was merely going along with it!
"How about I help you pull it up?" Shi Tian asked tentatively. He didn’t want to waste too much time here with Brother Jian Qiang; he needed to get back to fishing. Sun Lang had hooked another fish—a Little Crucian Carp that looked quite tasty.
"Or could you brace the Rod for me?" Looking up hopefully, Brother Jian Qiang asked.
"No way! I don’t have that skill; you should manage on your own!" As soon as Brother Jian Qiang spoke up, Shi Tian firmly rejected him. With the Net in hand and lighting a cigarette, he figured he didn’t mind waiting a bit longer.
After what felt like an eternity waiting for Brother Jian Qiang's fish to surface again, Shi Tian thrust his Net forward. But without a netting maneuver ready, the fish dove back down again, causing more beads of sweat to form on Brother Jian Qiang's forehead.
"Brother, this is tough! You need to aim carefully for that perfect shot!" Gritting his teeth and shouting at Shi Tian, Brother Jian Qiang felt he would have to flay this fish alive just to justify his suffering!
"Don’t blame me; our professions are different and not suited for each other! When I play games, I always use Lao Liu’s tactics—professionally stealing tires! My skill points are all about random shooting; if I catch something, I’m dead!"
Once he finished speaking, he thrust the Net out again. This time he aimed better; at least that fish that had lost its balance fell into the Net.
Relaxing his grip on the Rod, he tossed it aside and watched as Brother Jian Qiang consoled himself through his struggles. Shi Tian quickly transferred the fish into his live well and grabbed his Rod to leave—it was too unseemly!
He thought Brother Jian Qiang would give up after that but just a few minutes later, Brother Jian Qiang regrouped and set off once more. A small bowl of Rubber Bait appeared beneath him as he took hold of the Rod again—the fish in Da Mao River began trembling once more!
