"Are you guys not fishing this afternoon?" Shi Tian casually asked as he sat down at the table, a pack of cigarettes in hand and a dozen beers delivered to them.
The few of them had been assigned this task on short notice, spending the entire morning volunteering here. Watching others catch fish one after another made their eyes gleam with envy.
"We would love to fish, but we have to keep an eye on the competition! What if someone runs off with a rod? Then you'd have to pay for it!" Tang laughed as he clinked glasses with Shi Tian.
"Do you think anyone would dare run off with over three thousand rods? That would be enough to get them into serious trouble! Who would ruin three generations for a single rod? There aren’t that many fools around," he shot a glance at Tang, knowing he was just teasing.
They weren’t volunteering just to guard the rods; they were aiming for the position of Jiyang Xiangzhu. Securing that title would elevate their Sea Fishing Faction significantly. However, their real target might not be Jiyang Xiangzhu but rather Ya Cheng Xiang Zhu, as that position was more attainable.
"Tian Ge, why don’t you skip fishing this afternoon and join us as volunteers? It’s a promising opportunity!" After downing a beer, Da Gui Wang stood up and patted Shi Tian on the back, casually suggesting it.
"Volunteering? I haven’t done that in ages. It’s good exercise, though," Shi Tian mused, genuinely tempted by Da Gui Wang's proposal.
"Sure! But Turtle Brother, I’m not familiar with this business. You’ll have to guide me this afternoon!" Shi Tian said with a slight smile, scratching his nose.
"No problem, leave it to me! I’ll show you the ropes!" Da Gui Wang felt quite pleased to drag Shi Tian into this.
After finishing their meal, the four of them stepped out of the restaurant. Shi Tian followed Da Gui Wang along the coast, taking in the sights.
There were plenty of people fishing, but even more just watching.
"Are you here on vacation? Why aren’t you participating in the competition?" Shi Tian casually struck up a conversation with a middle-aged man who was watching the scene while holding a rod.
The man looked well put together, carrying a handbag that suggested he was accompanying his wife on her outing while enjoying some free time himself.
"Nope, I’ve never fished before," he replied after glancing at Shi Tian.
"Never fished? That’s too bad; we should dig a hole and bury you!" Shi Tian joked as he tossed some Black Bream Bait into the water, deciding to chat for a bit before casting his line.
Fishing had become a spiritual pillar for young people like them. With ten dollars spent on a rod and some worms dug up from the ground, they could sit by the river on weekends and clear their minds—much more beneficial than scrolling through videos or playing games!
Xingpai Fishing Gear had already established itself as mid-to-high-end equipment, which wasn’t suitable for beginners. But that didn’t matter; once they got someone hooked on fishing, buying Xingpai gear was only a matter of time.
"Ten dollars is still money! You’re not married yet, are you? You don’t know how tough it is for men after marriage—better cherish your freedom!" The older man handed Shi Tian a cigarette with a serious tone.
"If you can’t even spare ten dollars, are you under your wife’s thumb? You’d better find a way to escape that!"
Watching videos was merely entertainment; fishing was an investment! With one rod costing ten dollars, catching just one fish could cover that expense!
I know a guy whose wife is very strict and doesn’t give him any pocket money. Ever since he learned how to fish, he hasn’t been short on cash!
As I finished speaking, I noticed my friend had arrived. I tossed two Plastic Particles towards the water and casually handed him the Rod, saying, “Hey, can you help me keep an eye on this Rod? I’m going to grab a Net!”
Watching the Float bobbing up and down or getting dragged under the water, I knew it was time to lift the rod. With a quick turn of the Wheel, a fish was on the line!
Before my friend could react, I had already slipped away. Hiding nearby, I saw him struggling to reel in a fish. He managed to haul up a Black Sea Bream, and soon I was back with the Net.
“Wow, you’re good! You caught that fish so quickly! This Black Sea Bream must weigh at least half a pound; it’ll definitely fetch a good price!” I exclaimed as I unhooked the fish and tossed it into my Yu Hu, leaving my friend speechless.
“Let’s see if you can catch another one!” I said, handing him the Rod again and guiding him to drop the Hook into the water. I passed him a cigarette and added casually, “Just give it another go.”
Half an hour later, he had caught another Black Sea Bream. Watching one fish after another being tossed into my Yu Hu, my friend began to fidget.
“Here, take the Rod; I’ve got something else to do!” He shoved the Rod into my hands and turned to leave.
“Aren’t you going to keep fishing? You’re on a roll!”
“I signed up for a competition over there!”
“It’s still fishing! Isn’t it the same whether you’re competing or helping me?”
“Helping you fish is one thing; competing is for me. They’re not the same!” He grumbled back, clearly regretting his decision.
If he had entered the competition from the start, all those fish in my Yu Hu would have been his.
“Thanks for helping me out! Here, take some Fish Bait so you don’t have to spend your own money on it!” I handed him a handful of Black Bream Bait wrapped in rubber bands. I couldn’t let him escape from this situation!
