"Have you found out if Old Gao has paid his rent?" Liu Lei turned to the Tall Guy, who was assembling the live streaming equipment beside him, after catching a sea bass.
After buying a rod from Shi Tian last year, Liu Lei had been planning to confront Old Gao about his debts. However, Old Gao's strength was formidable; losing meant a beating, and winning would only lead to more trouble. Thus, they had to adopt a more indirect approach.
It turned out that Old Gao had just paid his rent for the year and had stocked up on quite a bit of inventory! Knowing that Liu Lei was preparing to deal with Old Gao, the Tall Guy was clearly excited.
This plan had been devised collectively by their group of six, and they were just waiting to put it into action.
"Let your cousin handle it; he can rent a storefront next to him! The space doesn’t need to be too big, but the sign must be prominent! Once the shop opens, don’t stock too much inventory—just sell at cost and keep the profit margin under five percent. I’ll cover any losses. We’ll target Old Gao’s business and make sure he has to hold onto his goods for at least a year before selling them!"
"Can’t we outsmart him if we can’t overpower him? If Old Gao has the guts to move, then we’ll open a branch. We won’t stop until he’s forced out of business!"
"Alright, Brother Lei! We’ve been waiting for you to say that; the rent negotiations are already settled!" With that, he pulled out his phone. Old Gao was in for a headache!
After glancing at the others, and while they still had time before the live stream began, Liu Lei rubbed his face and said to them, "The promotional gifts from last year’s rod purchase are still around, right? Let’s send those gifts over to the fishing spot."
"The rod is your year-end bonus; we need to account for those gifts too! We have to prevent Old Gao from using any dirty tricks."
In recent days, Liu Lei had secretly tested Wo Liao, which had surprisingly effective results. However, after the New Year, Shi Tian's Fishing Tackle Shop stopped giving away Wo Liao, which posed a bit of a challenge!
He needed an excuse to retrieve Wo Liao and then compensate each of them with a rod. For the sake of their live streaming venture, he had no choice but to resort to this strategy!
"Do we really need to account for gifts?" The Tall Guy immediately became curious upon hearing about collecting the promotional items.
Old Gao was shameless; it never hurt to be over-prepared!
Fearing that the Tall Guy would linger on this topic, Liu Lei quickly shifted gears: "Tell your cousin that when we see him, we should act like we don’t know each other. We still need to shop at Old Gao’s store occasionally; his worms are quite cheap!"
With that said, Liu Lei stood up and began packing away their gear.
As they gathered their things and prepared to leave their spot, everything was nearly ready for the live stream.
Once back in the car, they started the live stream. As people began to gather, the official broadcast commenced.
"Thank you all for your support! Today we’re going for something challenging—catching big Hai Li fish! Please like and comment generously; all fish caught during today’s stream will be raffled off at the end. I’ll cover shipping costs—consider it my New Year’s gift to you all!"
After some opening chatter, he pushed open the car door and got out. He grabbed their gear and ran over to the rocks while reciting his notes from last night.
After scouting around and finding a good fishing spot, he hooked on some live shrimp. With his first cast came a five-pound Largemouth Bass, instantly causing an uproar in the booth.
Catch a fish, draw a prize, and toss it into a plastic box filled with crushed ice, then cast the next line. This was a playful idea that Shi Tian casually mentioned when I went to pick up the Rod from him before the New Year. After a few days of hard work by his team to refine the concept, we decided to give it a trial run. If it works well, we might just stick with this for the entire year!
To snag some free fish, I had to keep a close eye on the Live Streaming. Who knows what kind of fish would bite next? What if a big Shi Ban came along and hit me? I could finally get a taste of high-end Seafood!
This method has great appeal, generating high engagement in the Booth, but it also requires a good catch rate—no small or poor-quality fish allowed.
This strategy won’t work with a small account; there aren’t enough followers to make it worthwhile. A small team can’t afford to invest in it!
During four hours of Live Streaming, we gave away over twenty fish—some weighing eight or nine pounds, while others were two or three pounds. Some were thrilled while others were disappointed; it felt like big fish were being delivered right to our doorstep!
With a thousand dollars in shipping fees, we gained over forty thousand new followers. Liu Lei's eyes practically squinted with excitement at the numbers.
At this rate, who needs to compete? We should work overtime, fish for a few more hours, and take advantage before other Streamers catch on to this trick. We need to grab this wave of traffic while we can!
After the Live Streaming ended, I announced the time for tomorrow’s session. Once I put my phone away, I realized I should occasionally mention Shi Tian’s Rod during my streams. He came up with such a great idea; I needed to show my appreciation.
As for selling products, I couldn’t promote the Rod or Bait anymore. The best I could do was sell Seafood. I’m sure my viewers are food lovers who wouldn’t miss out on various sea fish—money would keep rolling in!
After wrapping up with a Black Pit Boss, our group swaggered away carrying three freshly processed Big Geese. We even made sure to grab a large Iron Pot from the neighboring Fishing Spot; we couldn’t waste the thoughtful gesture from the owner next door!
