As the line grew shorter, Sun Lang and Ping Tou got busy. Each took a Fish Spear, standing on either side of Shi Tian.
With such a large fish, using hooks would be too slow; they needed to bleed it out in the water and then tie a rope to its tail. If it were on the Air Force, they would have to use Wei Diao. The Mini Air Force didn’t have that equipment, but with enough people, as long as they bled the fish, tying a few ropes should make it easy to drag it onto the boat!
However, the last meter was different from what Shi Tian had imagined; the fish wasn’t diving underwater, which was strange! Wasn’t it a Tuna? Could it be that he had hooked a Manta Ray? Or perhaps a Mola Mola? That would be a disaster! Watching the Electric Reel slowly winding in the line, Shi Tian felt uncertain.
Earlier, he had been overly excited about catching a big fish and thought it was definitely a Dajinqiang. But now, considering the speed of the line coming out, it didn’t seem like a Tuna at all. Tuna swim fast; if it were a Tuna, the line would be coming out much quicker and wouldn’t be so stable! The fish on the hook was definitely large but seemed to have a slow temperament!
“Sun Lang, you take over the boat; I’ll take a look!” As they discussed the fish on the hook, Oka couldn’t sit still any longer.
He called Sun Lang into the cabin to take over driving while he grabbed his Fish Spear and moved closer to Shi Tian. Shining his powerful flashlight around, he found that everything was still pitch black; the line was still quite long!
Over eighty meters in length, and the fish was still at the surface—what kind of creature was this? After checking the direction of the fishing line, Oka felt puzzled.
A surface-dwelling fish? The only ones that could grow this large were Mola Mola or Manta Ray. But Shi Tian had hooked it at over sixty meters deep! Would Mola Mola or Manta Ray dive so deep for food? Who knows? It was only thanks to Lao Shi’s reminder that he realized he had hooked something; when he lifted the rod, the line came out without him even noticing how the fish bit! Could it be a whale? He sighed and urged Sun Lang to speed up; he wanted to see what exactly he had caught!
“A whale? Why not say you’ve hooked a giant squid?” Oka warned playfully. “You better be careful; if it gets angry and flies off, you might find yourself soaring high above!” However, this fish couldn’t be small; it probably wouldn’t fit in one pot! Rolling his eyes at Shi Tian, he noticed that they were reeling in faster now, and soon enough, they could see the fish in the water!
Minutes passed, and under Oka’s flashlight beam appeared a dark shadow—it was indeed at the surface. However, it didn’t seem to be a Mola Mola or Manta Ray since this fish was waving its Triangle Flag around!
“A Cat Shark?” Seeing the Triangle Flag made Ping Tou smirk.
Cat Sharks aren’t on any protected species list and are even kept as pets by some people. Because they can be kept as pets, they don’t grow too large—most only reach about a meter long.
“Your Cat Shark can grow three to four meters long?” Shi Tian rolled his eyes in disbelief as he shook his sore arms and prepared to cut the line.
No matter what kind of shark it was that could grow three to four meters long, there was no need to bring it aboard. The Fish Spear might not even pierce its tough skin, and dragging it alongside the boat at night could be dangerous!
What other sharks could end up on the dinner table besides Cat Sharks? It had to be a Cat Shark for sure! With an amused glance at Shi Tian, Ping Tou seemed determined to bring this creature aboard!
Catching such a large shark surely wasn’t just for eating; with so many fish on board, which one wasn’t better than shark meat? The only reason for bringing it aboard must be for bragging rights later during conversations.
“Don’t think about that! Did you see that other boat behind us? So many people are recording with their phones!” He reminded Ping Tou while Wang Gou hung a hose over the side of the boat. Now there was no need to let out more line or cool down the Electric Reel.
Man Cang Hao had been quite considerate; he had followed them all along without getting too close.
Getting too close to such a large fish can be quite dangerous. If it decides to dive beneath their boat, and the fish escapes, it would be hard to explain.
"Damn! A Whale Shark! And it's right in front of us!" This isn't a filter-feeding fish, so why did it take the bait? As the boat approached the fish, they signaled Sun Lang to slow down. Under the spotlight's beam, the group finally got a good look at the creature.
A Whale Shark was swimming leisurely in the water. When it saw the boat coming, it surprisingly paused and turned its head as if wanting to chat with Shi Tian!
The Whale Shark is considered the largest fish species, capable of growing over ten meters long and weighing several tons. This particular Whale Shark was no exception; its size was quite intimidating, easily weighing hundreds of kilograms.
After a while, it became clear that this fish wasn’t putting up a fight at all. If it had, Shi Tian would have either lost the line or been dragged over to Hai Li!
Should they cut the line or unhook it? Now that they could see what the fish looked like, there were no other options left—either cut the line or unhook it. Hearing Pingtou Ge's question, Shi Tian turned to stare at him.
