The old man’s fish was still swimming, and Shi Tian couldn’t help but feel envious.
“Old man, when you reel it in, call me over! I’ll help you net the fish; this one must weigh at least ten pounds!” Shi Tian shouted to the old man beside him. Taking advantage of the lull, he quickly assembled his net, ready for the big catch.
This fish was quite large, and the old man seemed less stubborn now. The Xi River wasn’t his territory, so he couldn’t say much about this kid fishing here. Besides, this kid was relatively reliable; he was fishing about seven meters away, a safe distance, and had only used two handfuls of plastic particles to bait his spot without causing too much commotion.
“Then I’ll leave it to you. It’ll be a while before this fish comes up—at least ten minutes!” After Shi Tian replied, the old man shifted his focus back to his rod, perhaps he hadn’t really taken his eyes off it at all; he merely divided a bit of his attention to respond.
Ten minutes? Shi Tian thought that he would soon have his own spot ready and then would need the old man’s help to net his fish!
As soon as the float dipped, Shi Tian lifted his rod. The way it bobbed indicated it was likely a carp!
With a customized rod and a thicker line, there was no need for finesse; he went straight for it. A little carp weighing around two pounds broke the surface and was swiftly pulled up by Shi Tian!
The carp from the Xi River were still quite beautiful; even at this size, they were entirely golden. Whether it was due to their breed or the water quality remained uncertain.
Water quality significantly affects a fish's coloration. For instance, carp from the Yellow River often have red tails due to the high sediment content in its waters.
Fish enthusiasts prefer using green water for breeding because after some time in green water, the fish’s colors become more vibrant. This is because green water is rich in algae, which increases oxygen levels during photosynthesis, making the fish more active and providing food for fry.
He couldn’t let this beautiful fish go; it had to go into the bucket first. He could release it later before heading home! It would be a shame to eat such a lovely fish; if it were just a bit bigger, he would keep it!
Glancing back at the old man’s side, it seemed like it would still be a while before his fish came up. The old man probably wanted to enjoy the thrill of reeling in for a bit longer. Since he wasn’t in a hurry, Shi Tian decided to cast again!
“Old man, I must be your lucky star! You’ve been fishing all afternoon without a bite, and as soon as I arrive, you hook a big one! When you land it, you have to let me take a picture!” Shi Tian teased as he watched the float rise again.
“Sure thing! Just make sure you’re ready when I do! If that fish gets away, it won’t be my fault!” The old man replied with a hint of sarcasm.
“You didn’t catch anything while I was gone either!” Shi Tian shot back playfully. “My catching a big fish has nothing to do with you! But since I’ll be helping you net that big one later, I’ll let you take a picture.”
Just then, ten minutes hadn’t even passed before the float dipped again; he struck hard and hooked another one!
“Wow! We both caught fish at the same time! The bites are so aggressive today!”
Hearing this made Shi Tian gasp in surprise. “Is someone else here?”
But that didn’t matter; there were plenty of fish at his spot now for him to enjoy throughout the evening. Still, that voice sounded oddly familiar…
Turning around, he saw Inn Brother!
After completing his check-in, the Inn Brother led himself into the room and then disappeared. Shi Tian initially thought he had gone out to fish, but it seemed he was busy with something else. The inn wasn't far from here; following the small path along the river, a turn would lead right to it. If the Inn Brother had come out to fish after checking in, he would have definitely arrived earlier than Shi Tian.
Oh! The Inn Brother is fishing too! After greeting him, Shi Tian turned back to continue battling with the fish on his rod. The fish wasn't big, just a little over a pound—a Little Carp, still young! He casually tossed it into the Xi River and attached a Plastic Particle before casting his line again.
"Uncle caught a fish! Steady now, I'll help you net it! Are you tired? Want me to take over for a bit?" As soon as the Inn Brother spoke, Shi Tian realized that these two knew each other well, likely being familiar neighbors.
The Inn Brother had tracked down Shi Tian by following his vehicle. After helping him check in, he ran off to take a picture with that Big Red Friend. Although they were over a hundred kilometers from the sea, who could say whether he had fished by the coast? As long as there was a photo, it proved that fish was caught by him!
After messing around with the fish, Shi Tian was already driving off to find a Fishing Spot. The Inn Brother came out with his rod and upon turning around saw Shi Tian's car. Noticing the out-of-town license plate from the North confirmed that Shi Tian was nearby.
As he followed the small path down, the first thing he saw was the two of them reeling in fish together. After exchanging greetings and preparing to cast his line, he realized that Uncle was still waiting for someone to help!
He still held onto the virtue of respecting elders and caring for the young. His own uncle was of such an age; with such a large fish on his rod, it must be tiring. He needed to quickly take over and help!
"Quickly set up your Fishing Spot! It’ll take some time to bring this fish in! Just borrow Brother Huang Pao's Net; it's big enough for you to wait and net your fish!" Dismissing the Inn Brother, he tightened his grip on the rod even more!
It had been years since he had caught such a large fish; how could he not enjoy this moment? How many more years could he fish? Opportunities like this were rare—he couldn't let them slip away to someone else!
