Shi Tian originally planned to wait until Electric Car Guy cast his line before asking to borrow some bait, but once Electric Car Guy made his cast, Shi Tian found it hard to speak up.
Electric Car Guy was using Sandworms, and as Shi Tian watched the ten-centimeter-long Sandworm with its numerous centipede-like legs in Electric Car Guy's hand, he couldn't help but shudder. While it was fine to sell these creatures in a box, he really couldn't bring himself to hold one and hook it on a Fish Hook!
With his plan to borrow bait dashed, he had no choice but to fend for himself. He rolled up his pant legs and felt around the rocks, hoping to find some Xiao Yu shrimp. Even two Zheng Ha oysters would do!
Catching Xiao Yu shrimp by hand near the rocks was somewhat challenging, but there were plenty of shells scattered about—both alive and dead, in large clusters. He pried off a few Tenghu clams, climbed onto the shore, found a rock to smash them open, and extracted the fresh meat inside. This would serve as ready-made Fishing Bait.
He hooked it on and gave it a gentle toss, watching the Float bob up and down with the waves; he felt completely at ease!
While Shi Tian focused on his fishing, Electric Car Guy was busy moving along the shoreline. This seemed to be the normal process for Reef Fishing: first moving along the edge, then gradually casting further out from close to far, not missing a single fish.
Electric Car Guy was doing quite well; while Shi Tian had yet to catch anything, Electric Car Guy had already reeled in three or four Little Black Sea Bream and Xiao Shi Ban. Although they were all under half a kilogram, it was evident that he had taken off his Air Force cap, making Shi Tian consider pulling in his line to try his luck along the edge as well.
However, moving along the edge came with its own costs. After catching a few fish, Electric Car Guy hooked something big—a Giant Fish! Even if Shi Tian brought out his Rogue Software Fishing Box, he wouldn't stand a chance against such a catch!
Getting into the water to retrieve his hook? That would be fine in a river, but in the rocky coastal area, that method seemed more trouble than it was worth. The rocks were Sharp; one wrong move could lead to injury. Electric Car Guy had no intention of risking himself for just one Hook!
He straightened his rod and pulled hard; the leader line snapped cleanly—a skillful move that made Shi Tian wince!
Seeing Electric Car Guy rummaging through his Fishing Box for Fish Hooks, Shi Tian quickly stood up and offered him a set of Hooks. "Here you go, Bro! Give these a try; they're our new Hooks and they're pretty good quality!"
Shi Tian handed over some Pin Gou hooks with Lead Weights attached; they could be tied directly onto the main line—sturdy and Sharp!
Not one to refuse help from a friendly face, Electric Car Guy accepted the Hooks with a thank you and pulled out a cigarette from his pocket—he was clearly someone who appreciated reciprocity!
As he watched Electric Car Guy tie up the Hook, Shi Tian turned back to focus on his Rod. Just then, he noticed some activity on his Float; he quickly prepared for action!
With a sudden jolt, he lifted his rod to set the hook. It wasn't much of a struggle; when he reeled it in, he found a small fish flailing on his hook—a little prince of fish throwing quite the tantrum!
A catch like this could never be released! He tossed it into the Fish Bucket and let it calm down on its own.
Pufferfish can survive in freshwater environments, but when it comes to Sea Fishing for Pufferfish, don’t even think about using freshwater for them. They can adapt to freshwater rivers entering Haikou over time but will die instantly if placed directly into freshwater.
With one Pufferfish accounted for, Shi Tian no longer worried about Air Force caps. He replaced the piece of Tenghu that had been nearly consumed by the Pufferfish with a fresh one and cast his line again without bothering to move along the edge anymore!
Electric Car Guy's painful lesson from moving along the edge still lingered; after just a short while of fishing there, he'd gotten snagged on the bottom. Now he was casting out over ten meters away—he wasn't about to join in on that action again! If he got snagged too and made Electric Car Guy watch him struggle, he certainly didn't have Electric Car Guy's skillful line-cutting technique!
Soon, Shi Tian no longer considered Electric Car Guy to be technically skilled. With a Yellowfin and a Sea Eel landed, Electric Car Guy had snagged the bottom again. If Shi Tian hadn't seen Chang Guadi, he would have thought Electric Car Guy was Chang Guadi's long-lost brother; the frequency of his snags was just too high!
Shi Tian had given him a sturdy hook, and after several tugs, the line still hadn’t snapped, leaving Electric Car Guy feeling quite frustrated. With a strong pull, Electric Car Guy looked on regretfully as his Abo drifted further away, unable to call it back, feeling somewhat at a loss.
Hearing the commotion from Electric Car Guy's side, Shi Tian glanced at the rod in his hands and smirked. He reeled in his own rod, took out a spool of main line from the Fishing Box, and grabbed a set of shore fishing gear to head over.
“Your line is way too flimsy! Luckily you didn’t hook a big fish; otherwise, you’d be regretting it with swollen legs! Here, try my line. I used this to haul in a ten-pound Golden Pomfret yesterday!”
Shi Tian's enthusiasm made Electric Car Guy feel a bit embarrassed. After handing Shi Tian a cigarette and expressing his gratitude, he pulled out all his line and cup, fumbled around for a bit, swapped out for Shi Tian’s line, and hooked on a Sandworm before casting again.
With the new line, Electric Car Guy felt confident. If he could pull up a ten-pound Golden Pomfret with this setup, what other challengers could there be by the sea? He had experienced the pulling power of the Golden Pomfret before; although he hadn’t caught one over ten pounds, he had managed to reel in one that weighed over two pounds.
In the shallow waters, the only fish that could rival the Golden Pomfret would be the Niu Gang Mackerel! If he could pull up a ten-pound Golden Pomfret, surely he could challenge the Niu Gang Mackerel as well! However, Niu Gang primarily foraged at night, making daytime catches unlikely.
After hooking on the last piece of Tenghu Rou, Shi Tian cast his rod once more. Without any Live Shrimp, there hadn’t been much luck so far. However, it seemed that Pufferfish and Yellowfin Snapper particularly enjoyed Tenghu Rou; after two hours of fishing, he had already caught three or four!
