"Alright, just use the hook! You keep an eye on the shop while I go fishing across the street! Whether we can have fish for dinner tonight depends on my luck!" After catching a few shrimp, Shi Tian picked up his rod and headed towards the opposite side.
"Boss, isn't the main line a bit thin for such a big hook?" Su Xueyi hesitated as she saw Shi Tian about to leave.
"The hook is about right for the main line I'm using; it’s just a few sizes off!" Shi Tian replied confidently. "My line is sturdy; don’t underestimate it. Fish under twenty pounds are easy to handle, and even if I catch something over twenty pounds, I can still reel it in like a pro!" With that, he ran off with his rod.
The main line he was using was typically meant for fish under ten pounds. Chang Guadi had tested it before, and the line from Fishing Box was significantly stronger than regular lines, boasting two to three times the pulling power. With that in mind, catching a thirty-pound fish should be quite manageable.
If he hooked something larger, it wouldn’t be an issue; with over a meter of line, he could take his time reeling it in. There were no tuna by the seaside, but with that much line, he could handle most ordinary fish easily!
Arriving at the other side, Shi Tian opened his phone to check today’s Imperial Calendar. The God of Wealth was positioned to the west today, and considering his fortune, he decided to cast towards the northwest.
Shi Tian had never specifically studied things like birth charts or the four pillars of destiny. However, he had read about them in Yang Zhai San Yao; some schools of feng shui incorporated these elements into their practices, so he could at least bluff his way through a conversation about them.
All of them were casting towards the west, but since Shi Tian wanted to cast northwest, he couldn’t position himself among them. He folded up his umbrella and moved to the far north, baited his hook with live shrimp, and cast diagonally towards the northwest.
He wondered if any incantations would help with fishing; perhaps one day he could learn a few spells from them? Unfortunately, those were closely guarded secrets that required visiting their temple to learn—what they’d teach would likely be a watered-down version!
He dismissed superstitions and decided to focus on fishing; only bait could attract fish!
Fishing involved many skills: observing water conditions, understanding underwater terrain, current direction, wind patterns, temperature changes, and pressure—all fundamental aspects. Additionally, knowing various fish species' habits was essential knowledge!
"You’re casting off-target! You didn’t even bait that spot! With your skills, how can you run a Fishing Tackle Shop?" Shui Bi Zhang couldn’t help but tease as he watched Shi Tian struggle with his Fishing Box while nearly casting onto the road across from him.
In the morning, after releasing the first fish, Old Zhang had been busy all morning without catching anything until just after lunch when he finally hooked a few Shi Jiu Gong. He carefully placed them in his Fish Bucket and wouldn’t dare release any before reeling in.
As for Shui Laoban, it was needless to say; he swept through with a Mouse Grouper and secured today’s championship title.
Shui Bi Zhang and Chang Guadi were doing well too; both were skilled anglers who had caught plenty of Black Sea Bream and Sea Bass. Despite not catching anything in the morning, Chang Guadi’s haul in the afternoon put him firmly in the top three.
Sun Lang benefited from Beginner Protection Periods with a five or six-pound Sea Bass as his base catch along with several Black Sea Bream. Only Shi Tian remained wearing an Air Force cap!
"What do you know? A fisherman must understand astronomy and geography, observe water currents and fish behavior, know tidal changes and understand fish preferences to catch anything!"
Adopting an air of mystery, Shi Tian shot back at Shui Bi Zhang: "It’s rising tide now; fish come in with the tide looking for food along the shore. Casting far away wouldn’t be appropriate now; we need to cast closer!"
After making that cast, Shi Tian felt uncertain—who knew if there were any fish out there?
But since he had already cast his hook out there, he had to stick it out until this line was reeled back in. Even if he only caught a Shi Jiu Gong, it would be worth it! Pulling up now would only give Shui Bi Zhang more reasons to mock him.
"Boss Shi! Knowledge gained from books is shallow; true understanding comes from practice! Only knowledge tested through experience is valuable!" After saying this, he lifted his rod again as Sun Lang hooked another fish.
"Damn it! I can’t believe I fell for that! If I had known, I wouldn’t have brought him along!"
Shi Tian shot a glare at Sun Lang, who was busy reeling in his catch, while keeping a close eye on his own float.
"Come on, catch a fish already! If you don’t, I’ll be humiliated!"
"Boss Shi, guess how much this fish weighs!" After a few minutes, Yu Jing managed to haul in a decent-sized Shi Ban, its size impressive.
Shi Tian didn’t want to pay attention to Sun Lang, but Sun Lang kept bothering him, which only added to Shi Tian’s frustration.
"What’s so great about one fish? I’ve caught Tuna before! When have you seen me bragging?"
"It can’t be over three pounds!" Shi Tian glanced at the fish in Sun Lang’s hands and then turned back to focus on his own float.
To be fair, the fish Sun Lang caught was pretty good; although it weighed only about three pounds, it was considered large among smaller Shi Ban.
"You’re thinking of eating it raw, aren’t you? This isn’t anything special. If you really want to eat it raw, I can bring it over to you!" Sun Lang seemed particularly pleased to see Shi Tian at a loss.
Shi Tian turned to look at Sun Lang and smirked, "Weigh it! And remember what I said: if it’s three pounds or more, I’ll eat it raw!"
What’s the big deal about eating fish raw? It’s not like I’ve never done it before. Shi Tian wasn’t afraid of eating saltwater fish; as long as it wasn’t Pufferfish, what’s the problem with eating it?
Seeing Shi Tian so defiant, Sun Lang chuckled and said, "Alright! Boss Shi is tough! If it weighs enough tonight, I’ll take care of everything! If it’s over three pounds, you don’t even have to eat it raw; just cook it for me! I’ve been craving your cooking all day!"
Upon hearing this, Shi Tian’s expression darkened. So all this fuss was just for that?
"Fine! Just weigh it quickly and don’t disturb me while I’m fishing. I’m still in Air Force mode!"
