The equipment was decent, but the load capacity was a bit small; it could only carry one fishing spot at a time! Watching Shui Bi Zhang toss the last piece of bait into the sea, this time he didn’t bring the boat back. Instead, he opened the menu and activated the fish-finding feature.
“Wow, you’ve even got Tan Yu Yan with that thing!” Shui Bi Zhang’s display left Shi Tian dumbfounded.
He had seen Tan Yu Yan before; it was on the rubber boat at Xinyue Lake and also on the Air Force vessel. Now, even a toy diving boat had Tan Yu Yan!
But don’t underestimate it; despite its small size, it was packed with high-tech features! This boat was top-of-the-line, capable of detecting depths of up to fifty meters and could even be rigged with a hook for fishing. Just ask if you’re scared! Noticing Shi Tian’s astonished expression, Shui Bi Zhang proudly pointed at Tan Yu Yan’s screen.
Tan Yu Yan wasn’t anything fancy; it was just a small Sheng Na designed to prevent grounding on larger boats and submarines. Fishermen had modified it into a fish-finding device.
This gadget mostly worked in freshwater. Even in Hai Li, it was near the shore and couldn’t venture into deep sea waters. Detecting fifty meters was already sufficient for most fishing spots.
“Your little toy can fish? If you hook something big, it’ll drag you right to the bottom!” Shi Tian scoffed at Shui Bi Zhang and shook his head as he ran toward the store, where another vehicle had just pulled up.
While Shi Tian went to sell some goods, Old Zhang approached, his eyes glued to the screen displaying various sizes of fish, clearly envious.
“Is that screen showing fish at the bottom? How do you tell depth and direction?” Old Zhang asked, fixated on a large fish that flashed by on the screen.
“The scale on the side shows depth. You can see how deep the fish are by matching them to this scale. For direction, look at the numbers in the upper corners,” Shui Bi Zhang explained.
This diving boat was from yesterday; he had taken it home to study for half the night and came back to test it at four in the morning. This was his first time using it, so he wasn’t very familiar with all its functions yet.
After dragging Shui Bi Zhang into an explanation for a while, Old Zhang finally calculated the position of that fleeting large fish. He set up his rod, attached a live shrimp bait, observed for a moment, then cast his line toward where the big fish had appeared.
Old Zhang cast his line, and Shui Bi Zhang was stunned. He quickly reeled in his boat and rod, attached bait, and cast out as well!
At fifty meters away, Tan Yu Yan’s capabilities were still somewhat limited; no matter how precise its detection was, an Iso Rod couldn’t cast that accurately.
Just as they were supposed to be setting up their fishing spots, Old Zhang had already hooked a fish! What would they do now? The boss was waiting for him to pick him up at home!
Forget it; the boss took priority! Enjoying this moment might mean missing out on future opportunities for fun. Better to endure for now!
“Boss, it’s four-thirty. Should we go for Zao Kou today? If we’re going fishing, I’ll drive over to pick you up!” Shui Bi Zhang pulled out his phone and called Shui Laoban, wishing he would say not to come!
“Zao Kou? Isn’t that a bit early? It wouldn’t be too late if we went at five-thirty! What’s that noise on your end? The reel’s drag? Did someone catch a fish? Hurry up and come get me! I’ll wait downstairs for you!” After saying that, Shui Laoban hung up, leaving Shui Bi Zhang staring blankly at Old Zhang.
Shui Bi Zhang realized he had called at an inopportune moment; just as he connected the call, Old Zhang hooked a fish—a big one that could really put up a fight.
Watching Old Zhang bend his rod into a crescent shape made Shui Bi Zhang mutter about losing hooks and snapping lines while quickly jumping into his car to rush over to where Shui Laoban lived.
As Shui Bi Zhang left, Shi Tian also noticed Old Zhang’s big catch but didn’t have time to help; there were still several customers waiting in the store for him to weigh live shrimp and buy line setups.
Let him struggle for a while! A fish that big won't come out of the water in less than twenty minutes. Once he gets it close to the shore, he can run over to help net it!
After weighing the bait, the people in the shop disappeared. Seeing that fish was on the line, a group of fishermen rushed over to watch Old Zhang fight the fish! This left Shi Tian speechless; at least they could have paid first!
"You're applying too much pressure; loosen it a bit, or you'll risk snapping the line!"
"Don't pull too hard; the fish is still fighting. Gradually wear it out before trying to bring it in!"
"This net is nice; it feels good in hand! Everyone step aside, let me help with the net!"
A few people surrounded Old Zhang, chattering away and giving him advice on how to handle the fish, which left Old Zhang a bit confused about whose guidance to follow. Fortunately, the fish had taken the hook deep, and with a solid line setup, he could take his time.
A crowd gathered to watch Old Zhang battle the fish, including two passing fishing buddies who parked their cars by the roadside and squeezed in to see how big this fish would turn out to be and whether Old Zhang could land it.
Shui Bi Zhang was quick to go and return! He made a round trip in less than twenty minutes. With no cars on the road at night, Shui Bi Zhang drove like he was flying! At this speed, by the time Shui Laoban reached his neighborhood, he was already a couple of meters out.
"Old Zhang's got a big one! Here, let me help you with that; you go take a smoke and rest!" Shui Laoban pushed through the crowd and said to Old Zhang. Without waiting for a response, he reached for Old Zhang's rod.
In fishing terms, Shui Laoban was like half a teacher to Old Zhang. When he extended his hand, Old Zhang didn't refuse. He had no experience with big fish; if it got away, it would be such a shame. Shui Laoban was skilled, so he trusted him and handed over the rod without hesitation.
Shui Bi Zhang felt a bit helpless; after bringing his boss over, now his boss was off enjoying himself while he had to help carry the fishing gear!
Last night, Shui Laoban hadn't taken his fishing gear back but left it in the car before driving into Old Zhang's yard. The main gate of the yard was closed, so Shui Bi Zhang had to run into the Fishing Tackle Shop through the back door to grab some things.
"Did Old Zhang hook a fish? How big is it?" Shi Tianyi asked while helping Shui Bi Zhang open the back door.
"It looks pretty big; at least thirty pounds or more. It's been twenty minutes and still hasn't come up!" Shui Bi Zhang casually replied as he hurried into the yard to bring out Old Zhang's gear.
Shi Tian also wanted to join in on the excitement but seeing that over ten people had gathered there, he decided against it. Those people would likely come over soon to buy live bait anyway, so he might as well prepare some pin hooks for them in advance!
