"Fish on!" Shi Tian exclaimed as he cast his line. Not long after, he heard the old man's voice nearby.
Turning his head, he saw a nearly twenty-centimeter Pufferfish flopping onto the shore, while Air Force approached with a Control Fish Tool to help the old man remove the hook.
The Pufferfish had quite a powerful bite; it could crunch through a soda can like it was a potato chip! But how did a Pufferfish end up here? Wasn't it supposed to be in the river? How could it be in Hai Li as well?
"Old man, is this a Pufferfish? How did it come to Hai Li? Did it turn into a dolphin?" Shi Tian mused, though it didn't quite resemble any dolphin he had in mind.
After teasing the old man, Shi Tian continued to watch his Float. He was eager to see what his first sea fish would be like; he needed to put in some effort. Otherwise, if his first Sea Fishing experience ended up being just Air Force's catch, that would be too embarrassing!
Pufferfish typically lived in Hai Li and would only enter rivers during their migration. Therefore, it wasn't uncommon to see them in coastal rivers. They didn't grow very large—usually only about twenty to thirty centimeters—so this one was considered quite big.
Air Force casually remarked as he held up the Pufferfish the old man caught, "This one's delicious! Can you cook it? If you can, we might just have a feast tonight!"
However, Pufferfish blood contains potent toxins that have no antidote. If not handled properly, it could lead to disastrous consequences for everyone at the table.
Hearing Air Force's words, Shi Tian shook his head decisively. "I can't cook it; I've never done it or even tasted it before. If you're really keen on eating it, I can look up how to prepare it right now!"
Shi Tian wasn't sure how good Pufferfish tasted, but in his opinion, risking life and limb for a meal wasn't worth it. Even if it turned out to be terrible, he would have to claim it was a delicacy just to boast about having eaten Pufferfish.
"Me learning how to cook Pufferfish for you guys? I might have the guts to try, but you guys definitely don't have the guts to eat! There's a big difference between adventure and courting death. Adventure involves preparation and control; courting death is all about luck. Clearly, none of you are inclined towards self-destruction!"
"We still want to live a bit longer! You should give up that idea! If you want to experiment with cooking Pufferfish, I can sponsor you some small cats or dogs for practice first!"
Cooking Pufferfish isn't something just any chef can do; in some places, you need certification specifically for preparing Pufferfish. Without that certificate, cooking it is illegal and could land you in jail.
After exchanging banter with Air Force, Shi Tian realized his Float was gone! After searching the surface of the sea for a while without success, he decided to change bait and cast again.
As soon as he lifted his Rod, it bent into a perfect arc, nearly causing Shi Tian to stumble.
"Wow! Do sea fish really have this much strength?" he exclaimed. Gripping the Rod tightly with both hands, he realized there was no chance of reeling in now; he had to deal with this fish first!
Shi Tian had previously caught Big Carp weighing dozens of pounds, but none had fought like this one. Of course, there could be other factors at play. However, once he hooked this sea fish, Shi Tian discovered that fishing was indeed a physically demanding activity—heavy labor at that.
Seeing Shi Tian struggling so much, Air Force walked over with a grin and said cheerfully, "You young ones really need to work out more! If you don't have a strong body, you'll even struggle to find a girlfriend!"
Air Force was four or five years younger than Shi Ye and still under thirty himself—only slightly older than Shi Tian—but when he spoke, he sounded much older than his years. However, Shi Tian didn't have the energy to banter back; he needed to focus on getting this fish up.
Just as he thought about pulling the fish up himself, Air Force snatched the Rod from him. The joy of fishing lay in feeling the tug of the fish after hooking it; such an opportunity was too good for Air Force to pass up.
Taking over the Rod from Shi Tian's hands and bending slightly at the knees, Air Force couldn't help but exclaim something quintessentially Chinese as soon as he got hold of it!
"Wow, you caught a big one again! You really have some luck!"
After expressing his admiration, Air Force didn't seem as flustered as Shi Tian. Clearly, he had plenty of experience with fishing for big fish. After a bit of give and take, the fish finally broke the surface of the water after more than ten minutes.
It was another Sea Wolf, and it looked like it weighed at least thirty pounds—quite impressive! Shi Ye was already standing by with a net, waiting for Air Force to tire out the fish completely before he would make his move.
Looking at this fish, the old man suddenly felt that the earlier Pufferfish wasn’t so appealing anymore. A little Pufferfish that had barely put up a fight was nothing compared to this big catch. The thrill of reeling in such a large fish was enough to work up a sweat and keep him excited for most of the day!
Seizing the moment, the net went into the water, and the Sea Wolf was safely brought ashore. An Jun immediately took out the Control Fish Tool to unhook it while checking the displayed weight—it was impressive.
In terms of weight, this fish wasn't particularly heavy, but its length of over a meter and its massive teeth gave it an imposing presence.
Sea Wolves don't grow very large; typically, they only reach around ten pounds at most. For Shi Tian to catch one this size was quite rare.
However, this fish isn't particularly tasty and doesn't fetch a high price; even at over thirty pounds, it wouldn't sell for much.
"Come on, let's take some pictures! Now that you've caught a big fish, Air Force wasn't in a hurry to continue fishing; instead, he started setting up his camera to show off online.
Shi Ye was also eager about taking photos. The two worked together seamlessly, and within a few minutes, they had set up the equipment and snapped several pictures, both feeling quite satisfied.
"Cough cough, since it's such a big fish, let’s get a photo of the old man too! Make sure to capture it well!" After Air Force and Shi Ye finished taking their pictures, they noticed that the old man had also come over at some point.
