"Steady! Don't use brute force! It might be a big catch!" Seeing the rod bend dramatically, Air Force quickly stood up and shouted.
This Seven Point Two rod was quite valuable, specially designed for catching Giant Fish. Air Force wasn't worried about Shi Tian breaking the rod; he was more concerned about snapping the line.
Rushing to Shi Tian's side, he stepped into the water and took the Fishing Rod from Shi Tian's hands. He plunged the first section into the water, gripping the rod with his left hand while gently tapping it with his right.
Suddenly, the rod bent forward as the fish below exerted its strength. Air Force quickly pushed the rod forward, angling it to one side.
It was a big fish, definitely a strong one! It must be a Carp! Excitedly, he shouted as he cradled the entire rod in his arms.
Once they heard about the strong pull, Shi Ye and Lu Ya also reeled in their lines to help out. Fish that put up such a fight were usually Giant Fish; even seasoned Fishermen rarely encountered them.
As Air Force lifted the rod to set the hook, the fish felt pain and dove into the muddy bottom, making it feel like he was snagged on something. The purpose of tapping the Fishing Rod was to inflict pain on the fish so it would start moving again.
However, since this fish was continuously pulling hard, it was likely a Carp because they loved to stay near the bottom and often put up a fight.
Once they hooked a Giant Fish, it would be time to get busy. Their Ping Nets were all small; to land a big fish, they needed to assemble a larger Ping Net.
Lu Ya began assembling the large Ping Net while Shi Ye held onto Air Force's belt. After all, Air Force had been standing in water that barely reached above his knees.
Not giving the fish another chance to pull away, Air Force maneuvered left and right. The surface of the water began to churn as the big fish thrashed about.
Shi Tian had little experience with such large fish. Seeing that no one spoke, he didn't dare say anything either; he just focused on Air Force's movements while occasionally glancing at the ripples in the water.
After nearly half an hour of battling with this fish, they finally caught a glimpse of its true form.
Air Force's guess was correct; it was indeed a Carp, measuring about a meter long. According to him, this fish must weigh at least forty pounds or more.
As it surfaced, this Carp was clearly out of options. With Air Force slowly bringing it ashore, ten minutes later, this big fish landed in Lu Ya's large Ping Net. Shi Ye and Lu Ya quickly lifted it out.
"This is just like that Carp I brought from the Yellow River when we first took over this area!" Shi Ye exclaimed as soon as they had it on land.
However, as soon as Shi Ye finished speaking, Lu Ya immediately protested.
"How can you say it's that Carp from the Yellow River? Look at its color and size; this isn't even a Yellow River Carp! It must be one I caught in Xishuangbanna. When I caught it back then, it was nearly thirty pounds already; it's grown quite a bit since!"
Watching their argument unfold, Air Force shook his head after unhooking the fish. "Stop fighting over it! It doesn't matter where it's from; once it's in Yuehu, it's Yuehu's fish. Let's take some pictures quickly and then release it!"
Keeping such a large Carp would definitely be wasteful. Plus, judging by its belly, it seemed to be carrying roe; they needed to return it to the lake for breeding!
"Let's take pictures first! Don't post them on social media yet! We can share them later!" Shi Ye reminded them before finally lifting up the fish for photos.
Taking photos was the mission of Air Force, and he was a professional at it. To capture the moment, he specifically brought out a digital camera, but what was with that string of tiny Coke Sprite bottles hanging from the camera strap? And why was there a box of mini Hua Zi?
After Shi Ye took his turn, Lu Ya snapped a few shots, and then it was finally Air Force's turn. He set up the tripod, adjusted the angle, and set the timer; he didn't trust the others' skills when it came to photography.
Once they finished taking pictures, they released the fish back into the lake, and none of them felt like continuing to fish. After such a big catch had stirred up the spot for over half an hour, it was clear that there were no more fish left. With a big fish caught, they lost interest in smaller ones weighing three or four pounds. They packed up their gear, tossed some fish bait into the lake, stuffed their equipment into the tent, and took along their endless supplies and the trash from the lakeside before heading down the mountain.
Upon returning to the villa, Shi Tian was stunned. After a whole day of fishing, the yard had transformed completely. The pool had been cleaned and filled with water; you could see right to the bottom. The grass and trees in the yard were neatly trimmed, not a single dead leaf left behind.
The entire yard was spotless; even the fence had been wiped down, with some rusty spots repainted. Before Shi Tian could fully process this change, splash! The three of them jumped into the pool fully clothed, instantly ruining any aesthetic appeal!
"Quickly get down and wash off! What ingredients do we need for dinner? I had someone prepare them to be delivered; you just need to cook!" Shi Ye called out as he surfaced from the water.
Hearing that Shi Ye arranged for food delivery instantly lifted Shi Tian's spirits. "Let’s get some Abalone! We can make fresh Abalone tonight. If we can get a chicken too, we could prepare some fluffy chicken slices or stir-fried chicken. And let’s have some Sea Cucumber delivered; we can make Scallion Braised Sea Cucumber another day."
Four people would be enough to prepare six dishes: one Abalone, one chicken, today’s Giant Catfish caught by Lu Ya, plus a large shrimp in soy sauce. The remaining two dishes could be vegetarian, finishing off with Milk Fish Soup for a sumptuous dinner.
As for Scallion Braised Sea Cucumber, making it today would be impossible since soaking Sea Cucumber takes several days.
After finalizing the menu, Shi Tian took the seasonings and remaining ingredients back to the kitchen. He changed into swim trunks and pulled out a dozen ice-cold beers from the fridge before heading back to the pool.
He tossed beers to everyone and jumped in himself. After sweating all day, soaking in the pool felt refreshing!
When Shi Tian resurfaced from the water again, he found his three friends lounging on beach chairs with beers in hand, engrossed in their phones.
Having caught such a big fish today was something worth showing off. Once Shi Tian had soaked long enough in the water, he picked up his phone and saw that Shi Ye had posted an image on social media.
"Seventy pounds of pure wild Giant Fish! Fought for an hour before safely bringing it ashore!"
