Song Ying hurriedly packed her things and boarded the plane to Suzhou, carrying a large bag of gifts. During the flight, she fortuitously ran into Peng Fei. With enthusiasm, Peng Fei led Song Ying to the square, where Huang Ling and Teacher Zhuang were leisurely practicing Tai Chi. Each movement was precise and graceful, clearly reflecting their enjoyment of a comfortable retirement life. Watching this scene, Song Ying felt a wave of envy and genuine happiness for them. She quickly walked over and called out loudly, "You two!"
Huang Ling and Teacher Zhuang turned at the sound of her voice. Upon seeing Song Ying, they both displayed expressions of surprise.
Soon after, everyone headed to their home. Huang Ling and Teacher Zhuang busily prepared a sumptuous feast. As soon as Song Ying sat down, she said apologetically, "I’m really sorry. Our son has been a bit careless in this matter, and I appreciate your concern. But don’t worry, we will definitely take responsibility." Saying this, she took out a savings book from her bag and handed it to them. "This is just a token of our appreciation for supporting Xiao Ting and Lin Dongzhe."
Upon hearing Song Ying's words, Huang Ling and Teacher Zhuang exchanged glances, a faint smile appearing on their faces as some of their earlier irritation dissipated. At that moment, Xiao Ting happened to arrive home. Perhaps feeling a bit flustered and uneasy, Xiao Ting instinctively called out "Mom" as she entered. Song Ying momentarily didn’t react and responded automatically. As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized it was inappropriate, creating an awkward atmosphere.
A slight blush crept onto Song Ying's face as she quickly cleared her throat in an attempt to mask the embarrassment.
However, deep down, Song Ying genuinely liked Xiao Ting. She soon composed herself and with a beaming smile presented the many gifts to Xiao Ting, holding her hand as she said, "Xiao Ting, these are all for you. Lin Dongzhe is currently busy with his internship evaluation and couldn’t make it himself, so he asked me to come see you."
With a gentle cough and a warm yet slightly apologetic smile, Song Ying continued, "Xiao Ting, these gifts were carefully selected by Auntie for you. Look at this exquisite necklace; I think its simple design really complements your elegance. And here’s a box of skincare products; girls should take care of their skin." As she spoke, she handed each gift to Xiao Ting.
Xiao Ting shyly accepted them and softly said, "Thank you, Auntie. I appreciate your thoughtfulness."
Song Ying lightly patted Xiao Ting's hand and smiled, saying, "Silly girl, there’s no need to be so polite with Auntie. Lin Dongzhe has been quite anxious on the phone, constantly worrying about you. He’s in a crucial phase of his internship evaluation and can’t get away right now; he specifically urged me to take good care of you. Auntie knows that you’re a young lady; it’s truly a blessing for Lin Dongzhe to be with you."
Xiao Ting lowered her head slightly, a blush rising on her cheeks as she replied, "Auntie, I really didn’t want to make my parents so upset; it’s just that some things..."
Song Ying quickly interrupted her gently saying, "Auntie understands; young people have their own thoughts and ways of doing things. Don’t worry too much; I will communicate with your parents about this. It’s just a small hiccup; from now on we are all family and can resolve any issues together."
