As the competition drew closer, the Training Base entered a crucial period of self-rehearsal and creation. This phase was significant, with some individuals working on their pieces alone while others collaborated in teams, putting everyone's true skills to the test.
Let’s start with Suzhou. The foundational skills she had practiced before were merely a base; to stand out in the competition, she needed to create a piece that showcased her unique style. Just as dawn broke and light filtered into the Training Room, she was already at the mirror, warming up and awakening every muscle in her body. In her mind, it was as if a movie was playing, replaying all the dance steps and gestures she had learned over and over again, contemplating how to recombine them into something fresh.
During her solo creation, she boldly experimented with a mix of dance styles. For instance, in a segment depicting the changing seasons, she began with spring using the free and flexible movements of Modern Dance. Her body swayed gently, hopping lightly as her arms extended and retracted like budding sprouts in the spring breeze, radiating vitality. For summer, she incorporated the fiery hip twists and rapid spins from Latin dance, embodying the exuberance of life flourishing under the blazing sun. As for autumn, she switched to Classical Dance, gracefully executing cloud hands while stepping rhythmically to convey the poignant yet gentle essence of the season. Winter was even more striking; she employed freeze-frame movements from street dance that mimicked ice and snow, abruptly pausing with her muscles taut, each pose brimming with energy that vividly illustrated the characteristics of each season. Moreover, her gaze shifted with the emotional tone of each season; she maintained perfect rhythm—quick when needed and slow when appropriate—ensuring that music and movement were seamlessly intertwined with impeccable technique.
Ma Zhao Zhao was equally impressive in her solo creation, focusing on props to craft something unique. She used a soft piece of silk to choreograph a dance about exploring ancient alleys. At first, the silk twirled around her fingers in sync with airy music that felt ethereal and light, reminiscent of morning mist rising in an old alley. As she spun around, enveloped by the silk, it felt like stepping through an archway into an ancient street; each leap caused the silk to undulate as if walking on cobblestones. At the most dynamic moment of her performance, she threw the silk high into the air; its arc mirrored the eaves of ancient buildings. Then she leaped and spun beneath it, using the silk to expand her stage presence—her technique and creativity were truly remarkable.
When they collaborated as a team, sparks of inspiration flew among them. They aimed to blend ethnic dance, Modern Dance, and ballet into a grand work that wove together time and space. To start off, Suzhou performed a vigorous shoulder shake and horse stance from Mongolian Ethnic Group dance, exuding an ancient yet bold spirit as if narrating a story from long ago. Immediately after, Chen Yiran transitioned into Modern Dance with movements that varied in speed and direction, creating an impression of time rushing forward where everything was in flux. Finally, Ma Zhao Zhao leaped gracefully on pointe ballet shoes, embodying hope for the future.
In terms of coordination, they also showcased their skills brilliantly. While forming a human pyramid, Chen Yiran supported them from below with strength in her legs and core, steadily holding up Suzhou and Ma Zhao Zhao above her. The two dancers struck beautiful poses combining ballet and Classical Dance gestures in mid-air; their lines were smooth and fluid while applying just the right amount of strength to ensure flawless integration of their movements—all hoping to shine brightly on stage.
