Lin Wufeng sat nearby, his gaze scrutinizing. He asked, "Xiao Lu, if you two have any conflicts, how would you resolve them?" Lu Zean straightened up, responding earnestly, "Uncle, if we have a disagreement, we would first calm down, communicate honestly, respect each other's thoughts, and find a compromise. We both hope for our relationship to last." Lin Xiao Yu, sitting beside him, sent him an encouraging glance. After their exchange, Lin Wufeng's expression softened slightly. Although he still harbored some concerns, he found Lu Zean somewhat reliable and thought that perhaps he could be entrusted with his daughter. However, he still sternly warned, "Xiao Lu, Lin Xiao Yu is the treasure of our family; you must treat her well. Otherwise, you won't have a good outcome." Lu Zean nodded solemnly in agreement.
Sitting upright on the sofa, Lu Zean faced Lin Wufeng's scrutinizing gaze and Song Ying's inquiries. He made an effort to express how much he cherished Lin Xiao Yu and his plans for the future. Just as the atmosphere began to ease and Lin Wufeng's expression brightened, the doorbell rang urgently.
Song Ying stood up to open the door. As she did so, Lin Dongzhe burst in with his usual boisterous smile. The moment he stepped into the living room and scanned the room, he spotted Lu Zean and Lin Xiao Yu sitting side by side. He paused for a moment before breaking into a wide grin and laughing without restraint while pointing at them. "Wow! I didn't expect this! You two are really together! I noticed something was brewing before; now it’s confirmed!"
Lin Wufeng, who had been relatively calm until then, instantly exploded like a lit powder keg. He jumped up from the sofa with a flushed face and bulging veins on his forehead, glaring at Lin Dongzhe as he shouted, "Lin Dongzhe! Since you already knew about this, why didn’t you tell me? Do you even consider me your father?"
Lin Dongzhe was taken aback by the sudden outburst; his smile froze on his face as he scratched his head awkwardly and explained in a stammering voice, "Dad, I just found out not long ago! I thought it was just kids' feelings; they might fade away in a couple of days. There was no need to make a big deal out of it. I didn’t expect it to blow up like this! Plus, I was worried that if I told you, you might interfere without understanding the situation and create tension between them—that would be counterproductive."
Seeing this unfold, Lin Xiao Yu quickly stood up and walked over to Lin Wufeng's side. She gently shook his arm and said softly, "Dad, please don’t be angry. Brother was just trying to protect you." She continued, "Besides, we haven’t been hiding it for long; we were planning to tell you and Mom soon to put your minds at ease."
Lu Zean also stood up earnestly and said, "Uncle, that’s true. We take this relationship seriously and hope to gain your and Auntie's approval. Not mentioning it earlier was our oversight; please don’t let it upset you."
Song Ying quickly intervened to ease the tension. She pulled Lin Wufeng back down into his seat while soothing him and said, "Now now, Old Lin, the kids have clarified everything; it's not too late to know now." She added with a gentle tone, "Lin Dongzhe meant well; let’s not make things difficult for him. The important thing is to discuss what’s next for these two."
Lin Wufeng's anger had not fully dissipated as he shot another glare at Lin Dongzhe before huffing heavily and finally sitting down again. However, when he looked at Lu Zean and Lin Xiao Yu, there was still a hint of sternness and concern in his eyes as he muttered sternly, "This matter cannot just end here today. Lu Zean, let me make myself clear: if you ever treat Lin Xiao Yu poorly in any way again, don’t blame me for being rude!"
Lu Zean hurriedly nodded in agreement, promising to cherish Lin Xiao Yu and ensure she never faced any grievances. Meanwhile, Lin Dongzhe quietly sighed in relief beside them, thankful that this storm had temporarily calmed down. He silently vowed never to meddle in his sister's romantic affairs again to avoid triggering their father's wrath once more.
