On a warm spring day, Huang Ling had somehow found some high-yield Snake Gourd seeds. Her eyes lit up with excitement as she proposed, "Let's plant some Snake Gourds in the yard! We could save a lot on groceries." At that moment, Teacher Zhuang was busy preparing his lessons, while Huang Ling and Lin Wufeng were each occupied with their tasks, filling the small courtyard with a lively and fulfilling atmosphere.
As everyone worked, they noticed Song Ying resting nearby and playfully teased her for being lazy. Laughter erupted among the group, but their hands remained busy as they turned the soil, sowed seeds, and watered the plants, carefully tending to their patch of gourds.
Days passed like magic, and the Snake Gourd vines grew wildly, lush green gourds hanging from the trellis, cascading down in delightful clusters. Huang Ling and Song Ying beamed with joy as they picked the best gourds to share with their neighbors, reveling in the bounty of their harvest.
One day, Song Ying noticed Wu Shanshan's clothes were old and had a brilliant idea. She discussed it with Huang Ling: "Let's make Shanshan a top out of two pieces of scrap fabric. It'll be practical and pretty!" Huang Ling agreed enthusiastically, and the two set to work sewing together.
However, the abundance of Snake Gourds also brought sweet troubles. The kitchen was filled daily with Snake Gourd buns and rice paired with Snake Gourd. At first, everyone enjoyed it immensely, but as time went on, seeing Snake Gourd at every meal made their taste buds protest. Just the sight of it made their stomachs churn; it became difficult to swallow. Yet they couldn't bear to throw it away, leaving them in a humorous dilemma about their overabundance.
The three children were filled with anticipation as they bounced toward the youth center for class. The teacher brought exciting news: reporters from the provincial television station would come to film their performance for a program that would air on TV! The children instantly flushed with excitement, eagerly looking forward to this special event.
The day of the performance arrived, and everyone gathered at Grandpa Zhang's house, where it was bustling with people. The Chorus Class took the stage first; the melodious tune of "Jasmine Ridge" flowed gently through the air. Xiao Ting and Lin Xiao Yu stood tall at the front as lead singers. Xiao Ting's voice was clear and bright like a lively oriole flitting through the woods; Lin Xiao Yu's emotional delivery infused each note with deep understanding of the song's essence. Their harmonious collaboration captivated everyone present, who praised them enthusiastically: "Look at these two kids! They have such amazing voices; who knows? They might become big stars one day!"
Next up was the Dance Class performance. When Lin Dongzhe took the stage holding tightly onto his drum, he seemed a bit nervous; the drum wobbled slightly in his grip as he moved awkwardly. But once he started dancing, he radiated vibrant energy. Although his movements weren't perfectly coordinated, they were full of life. The audience exchanged smiles and joked, "Lin Dongzhe's dance is truly unique; it has such a lively spirit!"
During the solo dance segment, the spotlight focused on a graceful figure gliding onto the stage—none other than the usually quiet Lin Xiao Yu. Dressed in a stunning dance costume with exquisite makeup, her eyes sparkled with confidence. Every gesture exuded professionalism as she twirled and leaped gracefully, perfectly embodying the essence of dance. The audience was left in awe; they couldn't believe that this usually reserved girl could shine so brightly on stage. Song Ying's eyes squinted with joy as she beamed; Lin Wufeng stood tall with pride on his face as if declaring that this was his remarkable child; Lin Dongzhe even shouted excitedly, "Hey! That's my sister! Isn't she amazing?" His pride nearly overflowed.
That day was bright and sunny when the Dance Teacher from the youth center arrived at Song Ying's home with a beaming smile. As soon as she entered, she grabbed Song Ying's hand eagerly and said, "Song Ying! I have great news! The reporters from the provincial television station want to invite Lin Xiao Yu to join our youth center kids in visiting soldiers to deliver heartfelt blessings for Army Day! If she performs a dance program there, would she be willing to go?"
Upon hearing this, Song Ying's eyes widened in surprise. She never expected her usually quiet daughter would receive such an opportunity; her heart swelled with pride but also worry. After collecting her thoughts, she quickly replied, "Oh my! Teacher, this is so sudden! We need to think about it before we let you know our decision."
The Dance Teacher nodded with a smile and patiently explained: "Song Ying, don't worry about your child's schedule. This event will take place during summer vacation and will include a full month of training. However, it will be closed training where all kids will stay together to focus on practice. So parents need to consider this carefully; once you've made your decision, just come find me to let me know." After saying this, she stood up to leave, leaving Song Ying deep in thought about this opportunity.
