A strong sense of crisis enveloped Lin Yuan, a presence more powerful than any enemy he had faced before, like an invisible hand tightly gripping his throat. The wound on his back throbbed painfully, and the weakness from his recent breakthrough washed over him in waves, nearly causing him to stumble. But at that moment, he could not afford to dwell on it; survival was paramount!
Lin Yuan gritted his teeth against the discomfort and staggered towards the cave entrance, each step feeling as if he were walking on cotton, weak and unsteady. One thought consumed him: survive!
As soon as he emerged from the cave, a biting cold wind mixed with snowflakes hit him, making him shiver involuntarily. In the dim moonlight, he saw three figures clad in black tight-fitting outfits, coldly watching him like three leopards poised to strike. They exuded a chilling murderous aura, as if they intended to freeze him into an ice sculpture.
"Well, well, if it isn't Lin Yuan! I didn't expect you to still be alive," the leader said with a mocking smile, his tone dripping with sarcasm. Lin Yuan recognized him immediately; he was one of the pursuers from the Qi Gong Association—what a stroke of bad luck!
Lin Yuan cursed inwardly; it seemed his whereabouts had been exposed. He forced himself to stay calm, took a deep breath, and feigned nonchalance as he asked, "Hey there, brothers! Why are you out here in the wilderness at this late hour? Shouldn't you be at home enjoying your warm beds and the snow?"
"Cut the crap! Today is your death day!" another man said coldly, his voice filled with murderous intent. Clearly, he had no interest in joking with Lin Yuan. In an instant, he vanished from sight and appeared right in front of Lin Yuan like a ghost, launching a fierce palm strike aimed directly at Lin Yuan's face.
"Whoa! Coming out swinging right away—no sense of martial ethics!" Lin Yuan barely managed to sidestep the attack, cursing under his breath. Although he had just broken through, his body was not fully recovered yet. Faced with three formidable opponents, he was clearly at a disadvantage.
The three men attacked simultaneously like three venomous snakes, each strike deadly as they surrounded Lin Yuan. He struggled to defend himself and quickly sustained several new injuries.
"Hey there, brothers! No need to take this so seriously—it's just a friendly sparring session! Just a little bit of fun!" Lin Yuan dodged their attacks while trying to lighten the mood with jokes, hoping to buy himself some time.
In that critical moment, an unusual energy suddenly surged within Lin Yuan's body. This energy felt like a warm current that instantly spread throughout him, filling his previously aching body with strength.
"What on earth? Did I eat something extraordinary?" Lin Yuan wondered internally. But before he could process it further, something even more astonishing happened.
Everything around him suddenly froze!
The leaves stopped rustling, snowflakes hung motionless in mid-air, waterfalls ceased their flow, and even the dust particles in the air halted their drifting.
The entire world seemed to have been paused—strange and silent.
Only Lin Yuan remained free to move.
"What the heck! What's going on? Am I in The Matrix?" Lin Yuan exclaimed in confusion as he instinctively rubbed his chin—a characteristic gesture that remained unchanged even in this frozen moment.
He tentatively extended his finger and poked one of the pursuers in front of him.
The man showed no reaction, standing still like a wax figure.
Lin Yuan suddenly realized that he seemed to have gained some ability to manipulate time.
"Haha, this is getting interesting!" Lin Yuan exclaimed excitedly, rubbing his hands together. This was like having a cheat code!
He circled around the frozen enemies, carefully observing their postures and expressions.
"This guy here has a fierce expression; he looks like a hothead. Hmm, let's give him a nickname: 'Angry-eyed Vajra'!" Lin Yuan pointed at one of them and muttered to himself. "And this one, with that sneaky look on his face, must be a cunning old fox. Let's call him 'Cunning'! And this fellow here, with no expression at all, is probably a poker face. We'll name him 'Cold-faced Killer'!"
He even had the leisure to kick 'Angry-eyed Vajra' in the rear.
"Wow, it's quite bouncy! This guy's muscles are well-trained!" Lin Yuan couldn't help but laugh.
But playtime was over; it was time to get serious.
Lin Yuan took a deep breath to calm himself. He knew that this state of suspended time couldn't last long, and he needed to think of a way to escape quickly.
He rapidly considered his options, countless possibilities flashing through his mind.
"That's right! Jiu'er!" Lin Yuan suddenly remembered the escape device that Su Jiu'er had mentioned earlier.
He quickly ran over to Su Jiu'er and found her also in a frozen state, like a sleeping beauty.
Lin Yuan hurriedly activated the escape device.
A flash of light enveloped them, and he and Su Jiu'er vanished from their spot.
Just as they disappeared, time resumed its flow.
The three pursuers finally reacted but found that Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er had already vanished without a trace.
"Where did they go?" Angry-eyed Vajra roared.
"Damn it! They got away!" Cunning gritted his teeth.
“......” The Cold-faced Killer remained expressionless.
The three were in a state of frustration, yet helpless.
Meanwhile, Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er had been teleported to a safe location several kilometers away.
Both of them were still shaken, gasping for breath.
“Phew, we finally escaped!” Lin Yuan said, still feeling a lingering fear.
Su Jiu'er also sighed in relief, her face pale. “Lin Yuan, what just happened?”
“I don’t know either!” Lin Yuan shrugged. “Suddenly... time just stopped.”
Su Jiu'er looked at Lin Yuan, her eyes filled with confusion and curiosity.
“Lin Yuan, how many secrets do you really have?”
Lin Yuan rubbed his chin again, lost in thought.
