The piercing alarm continued to echo in Lin Yuan's ears, sounding like a hundred ducks holding a concert in his head. He couldn't help but wonder if the designer of this alarm had a personal vendetta against him, deliberately crafting such an unpleasant sound to torment him. Wasn't this supposed to be a high-end, sophisticated secret base? With an alarm like this, one might think a market's loudspeaker was broken!
Flashing red lights and hurried footsteps approached rapidly, shaking the ground like a drumbeat. Countless fully armed Guards surged in from all directions, creating an atmosphere that could easily be mistaken for a zombie apocalypse. Clad in black combat gear and wielding Laser Guns, they wore expressionless faces reminiscent of robotic armies from movies, instantly surrounding Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er with no escape. The dark muzzles of their weapons were aimed at them, as if they were about to be turned into Swiss cheese. This was no parade; it felt more like a one-way ticket to the afterlife!
"Wow, this is quite the show! Are they throwing us a grand welcome party?" Lin Yuan couldn't help but comment, feeling like a monkey on display at the zoo, especially one about to be dissected for research.
Su Jiu'er remained calm; she pulled Lin Yuan behind her and drew a short sword hidden beneath her robe. The blade gleamed coldly, resembling a warrior ready for battle. The sword sparkled under the red light, complementing her stern expression. "Stop joking around and get ready to fight!" she whispered, her tone serious as if anticipating an impending storm.
Lin Yuan quickly rummaged through his backpack and pulled out two sticks he had picked up from the roadside, gripping them tightly as if they were primitive weapons. He felt like a caveman with firewood in hand, starkly contrasting with the high-tech weaponry surrounding them. "Alright then, looks like we’re about to experience some real-life combat! Though my gear is a bit lacking..." he said with feigned nonchalance, while inside he felt as tense as a bowstring ready to snap.
The battle was about to erupt.
The Guards launched their attack first; energy beams from their Laser Guns rained down like raindrops, slicing through the air with sharp whistles that echoed past Lin Yuan's ears. The colorful energy beams made it look like some nightclub was hosting a light show. Activating his Gazing Ability, Lin Yuan instantly detected each Guard's Spiritual Energy Fluctuation and movement trajectory, as if he had gained x-ray vision that laid their actions bare before him. He skillfully utilized Lingqi flow techniques, darting through the gaps between energy beams with the agility of a swallow, evading capture like a slippery eel. He even had the audacity to snatch a few grenades from the Guards as he dodged, slipping them into his pockets while muttering, "Hehe, just borrowing some candy; hope you don’t mind!"
"Hey! Your aim is terrible! Do you practice with laser pointers?" Lin Yuan teased as he evaded their attacks, enjoying himself as if playing hide-and-seek. He even exaggeratedly mimicked silly movements—beating his chest like a gorilla or waddling like a penguin—infuriating the Guards who gritted their teeth in frustration.
Su Jiu'er showcased her prowess as an heir of Ancient Martial Arts; she moved with agility and precision, her short sword dancing in her hands like silver lightning slicing through the night sky. Each strike created gusts of wind that knocked down approaching Guards one by one. Her movements were both precise and graceful, akin to performing an exquisite dance filled with lethal intent.
"Hmph, mere tricks!" she scoffed disdainfully, sounding like a martial arts master reprimanding lowly minions. She darted among the Guards like a ghost, each strike clean and decisive without hesitation.
Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er worked seamlessly together—one dodging attacks and distracting enemies while the other cleared obstacles—like characters in a video game: one dealing damage while the other served as protection. They moved effortlessly among their foes: one was as nimble as a monkey while the other was as graceful as a cheetah, leaving the Guards spinning in circles.
At that moment, on the surveillance screen appeared the figure of a Mysterious Researcher whose features were obscured by shadows but whose eyes glinted with malice like a snake lurking in darkness. His fingers danced rapidly over the control panel as if orchestrating the entire battle while wearing an insidious smile on his lips.
"This is bad, someone is manipulating this battle! It seems we've become fish in a barrel!" Lin Yuan quickly discerned the situation, his tone laced with caution.
Su Jiu'er also noticed the mysterious figure on the surveillance screen. Her brows furrowed as she thought, "Could it be someone from the Qi Gong Association? What do they want?"
The fight continued, but the odds were increasingly stacked against Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er. The number of Guards was growing, and their firepower intensified. They felt like trapped mice in a cage, at any moment on the verge of being caught. The walls of the laboratory flickered with data from various instruments, and red alarm lights flashed incessantly, enveloping the entire lab in a tense and oppressive atmosphere.
In that critical moment, Lin Yuan suddenly had an idea. He gathered Lingqi in his hand, forming an energy sphere, and hurled it at the laboratory wall. With a thunderous boom, the wall exploded, creating a large hole as debris and dust flew everywhere like a grand firework display.
"Quick, let's escape through here!" Lin Yuan grabbed Su Jiu'er's hand and ran toward the opening, like two birds soaring to freedom.
The Guards immediately pursued them, but they found themselves blocked at the hole. Lin Yuan had set up a Spiritual Barrier at the entrance, keeping them firmly outside. The barrier shimmered with a soft blue light, resembling an impenetrable wall that held the Guards at bay.
Lin Yuan and Su Jiu'er successfully escaped the laboratory, but they did not let their guard down; they knew this was just the beginning of the battle…
