The hospital corridor was icy cold as I knelt on the floor, the pregnancy test report in my hands soaked with tears.
Two red lines were clearly visible; this was the child of Si Jue and me, a supposed testament to our love.
"You shameless woman, how dare you get pregnant with my child?"
Huo Sijue's polished shoes appeared in my line of sight, towering over me as he looked down with a deep-seated disgust in his eyes.
I couldn't believe that this man had once been my unrequited love for five years.
"Si Jue, I really am Luo Qing..." I trembled as I reached out to grasp his pant leg, but he kicked my hand away.
The pregnancy report flew from my grasp, scattering across the cold floor of the corridor.
"Shut up!" He leaned down, gripping my throat with such force that I could barely breathe. "Luo Qing is dead. You’re just a fraud who has undergone surgery to look like her. Do you think you can deceive me into giving you my feelings and fortune?"
"No... it's not like that..." I shook my head desperately, tears blurring my vision. "I truly am Luo Qing, your fiancée..."
Slap!
A resounding slap interrupted my words. My cheek burned with pain, but it was nothing compared to the agony in my heart.
A weak voice echoed in the hospital room.
I turned to look inside, where the real "me" lay on the hospital bed.
The woman named Su Mei, connected to an IV, gazed at Huo Sijue with vulnerability. "Si Jue, please don’t hurt her for my sake..."
How ironic. She was the imposter, yet she occupied my place, basking in the affection that was rightfully mine.
"Qing Qing, don’t speak. Just rest," Huo Sijue's tone softened instantly as he hurried to her bedside, tenderly stroking Su Mei's face. "It's all because of this crazy woman. I'll have her thrown out right away."
"Don’t..." I struggled to sit up. "Si Jue, look into my eyes. I am truly Luo Qing! I lost my memory after that car accident five years ago, but my heart has always remembered you..."
"Security!" Huo Sijue barked, his voice sharp. "Get this lunatic out of here!"
Two security guards rushed in and roughly grabbed my arms.
"Si Jue! I really am Luo Qing! Our first meeting was in the elevator of the Interstellar Building when you spilled coffee on my dress..."
Huo Sijue paused for a moment, but quickly turned away with a cold laugh. "Ha, that’s public information; anyone could find that out."
"No! That day you also said..."
"Enough!" He suddenly exploded with rage. "Luo Qing is dead! She died in that car accident five years ago! You impostor dare to claim you’re pregnant? Very well, I will show you what happens to someone who pretends to be Luo Qing."
He took out his phone and coldly ordered, "Prepare the car, we're going to the villa."
My heart sank instantly. That basement, that hell without sunlight, I was going back there again.
This time, I not only had to protect myself but also our child.
What I didn't know was that this night was just the beginning of my nightmare.
In the darkness, I curled up in the corner of the basement, my hands tightly cradling my belly.
It was the seventh day. Aside from one meal of thin porridge each day, I had received nothing.
The damp air was filled with a moldy smell, and my back still ached from yesterday's whipping.
But I dared not move, fearing that any shift might affect the child within me.
"Click—"
The sound of the iron door opening made me shiver all over.
