The bride's mother, seeing her in-laws arrive, quickly pulled her husband along, a smile plastered on her face as she went to greet them.
"In-laws, hello! We are the parents of Li Xiyun," she introduced herself cheerfully, her confidence unwavering.
Han Baiying glanced at the couple and replied coolly, "I see."
"In-laws, thank you for raising such an outstanding son as Liu Jiyue. It truly is a blessing for our daughter, Li Xiyun, to marry him," the bride's mother continued with her flattering remarks.
"You're right about that. My son is exceptional, and your daughter is lucky to marry him; it must be a result of eight generations of good fortune," Han Baiying said arrogantly, showing no restraint in her words.
"Indeed, you speak the truth," the bride's mother responded, still eager to curry favor despite the blatant arrogance. The bride's father wore a dark expression, feeling uncomfortable with the situation.
Seeing the bride's mother so subservient only fueled Han Baiying's disdain.
Li Xiyun felt a prickling discomfort as she watched her parents being treated with such contempt. She wanted to say something but felt powerless against her domineering mother-in-law. Instead, she discreetly tugged at Liu Jiyue's sleeve and gave him a meaningful glance.
But Liu Jiyue merely smiled back, pretending not to notice.
"By the way, in-laws, I heard from President Zhao that you have a relative who knows someone from the Kong Island Qinghe Society. That person even helped your relative by confronting President Zhao's daughter. I didn't expect you to have such influential connections," Han Baiying said with a mocking smile.
"Uh, I don't know about that; that person isn't my relative," the bride's mother quickly replied.
"Not your relative? Heh, how could he possibly be here then?" Han Baiying sneered.
"Dad, Mom, which relative got into trouble?" Li Xiyun asked with a frown upon hearing this.
"A young man; he's not our relative," the bride's parents said irritably while pointing at Jiang Chen, who was too young and brash for his own good.
"Third Madam, tonight is a grand occasion for your Liu Family. How can an outsider come here and act so recklessly? You need to take charge," Zhao Xinrong's father remarked.
"I will certainly take charge; we won't tolerate anyone causing trouble in our Liu Family. Come on, let's see what kind of person this young man is who has Lin Family backing him," Han Baiying said coldly before leading the Liu Family members toward Jiang Chen with an imposing demeanor.
"Wait! In-laws, this is a misunderstanding; please don't be angry," the bride's father hurriedly interjected, not wanting Jiang Chen to get hurt since he had stood up for them.
"Whether it's a misunderstanding or not is for me to determine; you needn't concern yourself," Han Baiying replied dismissively.
The bride's father wanted to say more but was stopped by his wife’s grip on his arm.
"Honey, are you out of your mind? That kid is already the target of everyone's ire! The in-laws never liked us; don't provoke them further! As for that kid, he brought this upon himself," she urged him anxiously.
"This is infuriating!" The bride's father felt overwhelmed and deeply troubled by the Liu Family's arrogance; this was not how one should treat family ties during such an occasion. He had his pride and felt stifled by their insincere flattery.
"Best mind your words and actions; this isn't your domestic setting. If it weren't for your daughter, you wouldn't even be here," Han Baiying said coldly, her expression sharp and disdainful like that of an evil empress who believed her high status made her above everyone else.
