Afterward, Old Zhao simply instructed them to take these people away, and as the heavens sent them back to their homeland, he led me away with him.
Old Zhao did not take me home right away; instead, he brought me to his large camp in the West City District. On the way there, I still felt a bit dizzy and my stomach was churning.
"Get out of the car; this is my camp," he said.
I followed Old Zhao's gaze and saw that the place was bustling with people. If I were to estimate by sight alone, there were at least a thousand of them, if not more.
"Boss!"
The shouts of "Boss!" echoed like the frenzied screams of fans at a concert.
"First, take my son to get a shower, then bring him to my office," Zhao Changsheng ordered before walking away. Looking at the scene before me, I finally understood why some people would be terrified just by hearing his name. With so many people around, even a single spit from each could drown me.
I spotted some familiar faces in the crowd and raised my arm. "Er Dan!"
Upon hearing my voice, Er Dan immediately responded and looked around. "Hey, Xiao Zhao, where are you?"
"Right here!"
Before long, he squeezed through the crowd and came to my side. "Xiao Zhao, you're really alive! We were worried sick when we heard from the boss that you got shot."
"Heh, I'm not that easy to kill. I'm not familiar with this place; take me to get a shower."
To my surprise, Er Dan stood there without moving.
"What's wrong? If you don't lead the way, I won't know where to go."
After I spoke, a man nearby said to Er Dan, "Go on, Er Dan. Take Xiao Zhao to get a shower."
Once he spoke up, Er Dan finally led me away to get cleaned up.
At that moment, I didn't know who this man was.
"Xiao Zhao, since it's your first time here, you might not know—your dad is the boss. He’s like our class leader; he manages all of us."
"Oh wow, I didn’t expect that. I didn’t realize Old Zhao had arranged for a little foreman."
Then the crowd parted to make way for Er Dan as he led me off to get a shower.
A man only needs a few minutes to take a shower, but anything beyond that is something that can only be understood, not explained.
After finishing my shower, I asked Er Dan about some things around here. The conclusion I reached was that anyone who can be found here is someone Zhao Changsheng trusts. Conversely, those who haven't reached a level of trustworthiness in Zhao Changsheng's eyes are not worth considering. Generally, three people control the situation here. The first is the person I just saw, named Xia Yuan. He isn't good at fighting but can gather information from others in the shortest time possible; he’s essentially the intelligence head.
Some of Su Xuan's movements might have been uncovered by him.
The second person is the representative of brute force, Ma De. When I first heard his name, I almost laughed out loud; it just rolls off the tongue so easily. Ma De and Xia Yuan often clash whenever they meet, for reasons that seem utterly nonsensical. Zhao Changsheng has scolded them both numerous times, but in the end, it was all for nothing, so he simply stopped caring.
The last person is someone I couldn't figure out no matter how hard I tried—Li Hong! My mother!
Er Dan succinctly explained that my mother holds the power over finances; she is responsible for all expenditures, including daily wages and so on. No wonder our family has a construction materials company; it turns out it was established to legally and reasonably pay them, ensuring their daily expenses are covered. I must say, this arrangement is quite sensible.
