As soon as I finished speaking, I swung my fist and charged at them. Just as my fist was about to land, I woke up from the dream. When I opened my eyes, I found myself drenched in sweat, the morning light still absent outside, and the clock on the wall showed it was still early hours of the morning.
Since I was already awake and couldn’t fall back asleep, I figured it was time to get my body moving. If I didn’t, I might as well be a vegetable. It was a good opportunity to wipe off the sweat that had accumulated on me.
A simple act of getting out of bed, combined with the pain in my abdomen, drained all my energy. After struggling to sit up, I found myself gasping for breath on the edge of the bed, noticing that even the bandages around my abdomen were stained with a hint of red.
The distance from my hospital bed to the bathroom seemed like a mere ten meters, something a normal person could cover in seconds. Yet, it took me nearly a minute to reach the bathroom, forcing myself along the wall for support.
I thought about washing up, but then realized that if I did, I would just end up sweating again. So, I filled a basin with water and draped a towel over my shoulder. Just as I prepared to head back, I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My forehead was wrapped in bandages all the way to my hairline. Seeing myself like this made me realize that my hair must have been shaved off too. I couldn’t help but chuckle; it was quite ridiculous that they managed to hold back their laughter at my appearance.
As I slowly kicked the basin with my foot and leaned against the wall for support, it took me another minute to finally sit back down on the bed. After soaking the towel and wringing it out, I stripped off my outer clothes and began wiping down my body to clean off the sweat. Once done, I tossed the towel into the basin and lay back down on the bed. The pain in my abdomen was much worse than when I first woke up, but I gritted my teeth and remained silent; after all, what was this pain compared to what I had already endured?
It was nearing dawn now, and unable to sleep due to the pain, I turned to see my phone next to the bedside table. Thinking it might help pass some time until the pain subsided enough for me to sleep again, I picked it up.
When the screen lit up, I noticed several unread messages. Most were from Ouyang Zhirou and Lin Mu Xi.
Zhao Lun, today marks your first day in a coma. Do you know? That day when you collapsed in the car, it felt like my heart had died; I was so panicked and anxious. Thankfully, the doctor said you were just in a coma and would need some time to wake up.
Zhao Lun, today is your fifth day in a coma. Why haven’t you woken up yet? I really miss you! Can you please wake up soon so we can talk? Wuwuwu... followed by a barrage of crying emojis.
Zhao Lun, today is your tenth day in a coma. Do you know? Your family had dinner at your place today; your mom’s cooking is still so delicious! Look at this big shrimp; it looks so tasty! She uploaded photos of dinner with Ouyang Zhirou, Ouyang Xiong, Lin Mu Xi, Lin Tian, as well as my parents and grandparents.
These messages were all from Ouyang Zhirou. Then I turned to read Lin Mu Xi’s messages.
Her messages differed greatly from Ouyang Zhirou’s but conveyed similar sentiments.
Zhao Lun, did you dream about me? Lately, I've been dreaming about you all the time!
Zhao Lun, please don’t fall for Ouyang Zhirou’s tricks! She talked bad about me right in front of your mom; that’s not like me at all! Right now, all I'm concerned about is whether you've woken up.
Reading this made my eyes gradually redden as tears began to flow uncontrollably. It turned out that I meant so much to you all; how much I missed you too!
As these thoughts crossed my mind, I quickly typed out a response and sent it as green bubbles to them.
When I looked at Hu Yao’s message next, my tear-streaked face broke into laughter despite still crying.
Zhao Lun! Can you wake up soon? You nearly scared me to death that night; do you know? When you wake up, you owe me a feast!
Though it seemed like just swearing, Hu Yao couldn’t hide his concern for me. Many others had also left messages: Ouyang Xiong, Lin Tian, Lin Mama, even Aunt Liu. Instead of replying one by one, I simply stared at my phone until tears blurred my vision again and eventually fell asleep.
