I sat in the lounge, slapping myself a few times in frustration.
How could I miss that shot? Even a stray dog on the street could have scored with ease, yet I failed. I could already imagine how delighted everyone on the field was, especially Zhang Weijie! It was utterly humiliating.
The rest of the game was out of our hands. I had known we would lose, but losing in such a ridiculous manner was a first for me. Everyone tried to comfort me, telling me not to blame myself, but I could see the effort they were putting into not laughing out loud. Some were even pinching their thighs, afraid they might burst out laughing.
Even Hu Yao looked at me and simply said my name before turning and walking out the door. Without a second thought, that silly guy must have gone outside to laugh. If he wasn’t laughing, he wouldn’t be himself.
Go ahead and laugh; even I was close to chuckling at my own foolishness. I felt like I had let everyone down and betrayed their trust in me. After apologizing to them with my head bowed, I walked out the door, determined to eliminate soccer from my life entirely.
As soon as I stepped outside, I saw the last person I wanted to see: Zhang Weijie! He noticed me with my head down.
“Ha ha ha! Come look! Isn’t this the guy who shouted about making a stunning volley only to kick the ball away?” His mocking laughter rang in my ears, each word piercing my heart. The worst part was that I couldn’t retaliate; after all, I had embarrassed myself and deserved his ridicule.
I ignored him and tried to leave, but he stepped forward to block my path. With a victorious smirk, he looked down at me and said, “Zhao Lun, how do you still have the face to show up here? If I were you, I’d find a piece of tofu and end it all—what a disgrace!”
I had to hold back my anger! He wasn’t wrong; it was indeed my terrible kick that caused this mess—I accepted that. But even as I thought this, I clenched my fists tightly. At this age, it was easy to be impulsive. I had tolerated enough already, but that didn’t mean I wasn’t angry.
Seeing me silent, he took advantage of the situation and jabbed his finger into my chest, calling me a useless piece of trash. He had always been at odds with me, thinking that I was just a delicate flower, easy to bully like a soft persimmon.
As soon as he finished those three words, I swung my fist at his cheek without warning, catching him completely off guard. He fell to the ground, dazed for a couple of seconds before a surge of anger erupted from his chest.
"How dare you hit me?"
After saying that, he got back on his feet and threw a punch straight at my face. Although I was smaller in stature compared to him, years of practicing martial arts allowed me to easily sidestep his attack.
I lifted my leg and delivered a knee strike to his abdomen. As he recoiled in pain, I followed up with a punch that landed squarely on his face.
Zhang Weijie never expected that the soft target he thought he could easily manipulate would end up on the ground because of him. Blood gushed from his nose as I landed the blow.
"You bastard! Come at me together if you dare! Are you scared of a little challenge?"
Even though he was down, his fierce spirit remained undiminished, becoming even more aggressive!
"Damn it! Bring it on! I'll take you all on!"
I decided not to hold back any longer; I had been looking for an outlet for my frustration, and they would be perfect targets for it!
The students from Physical Education Class exchanged glances and charged toward me.
