Qian Duo Duo first expressed its enthusiasm towards the two of them before circling around the donkey. It sniffed from a distance, confirming that this was something it had never seen before, and then started barking. It seemed to be asking, "Who are you? What are you doing at my house?"
Yu Chunmiao commanded with authority, "Qian Duo Duo, no barking." It seemed to understand and stopped barking but continued to stare at the donkey with a wary expression.
Next to the donkey shed by the firewood room, Yu Chunmiao took a sickle and cut some grass. She didn't cut the sweet cane stalks but only the leaves. What if they needed to boil sugar for sale in the future?
Chen Ruolan brought an old bucket and filled it with water for the donkey. It was too hot outside; as soon as it got water, it drank half of it down.
Watching the donkey chew on the grass leaves, Yu Chunmiao slapped her forehead and exclaimed, "Oh no! I forgot to buy some rice bran or wheat bran for it. I don't want it to lose weight after a few days."
Qi Chong replied seriously, "I know how to make it gain weight."
Yu Chunmiao looked at him with surprise; was he joking? "Just wait until tonight," she said playfully.
Qi Chong touched his armpit and regretted his hasty vow from earlier.
As night fell, Qi Chong sat shirtless while being teased, his muscles flexing as he laughed, which made Yu Chunmiao's heart flutter with warmth.
She lay down as an Enchanting Consort and beckoned to Qi Chong, saying, "Come, This Palace will reward you with a shot."
Though Qi Chong did not understand her words, he understood her intentions.
With a push and a shrug, the man's deep, hoarse voice whispered in her ear, "Is the Empress satisfied?"
Reward!
The man smiled, and together they soared through the skies.
Once they finished their playful antics and settled down, the courtyard was filled with the youthful yet alert barking of Qian Duo Duo.
Qi Chong sat up, draped his outer robe over himself, and said, "You stay inside; I'll go take a look. Don't light any lamps."
The man quietly opened the door and slipped outside.
Upon reaching the hall, Qi Chong listened intently; it seemed there were footsteps outside the courtyard.
Qi Yuan was already awake. "Brother, is someone there?"
"Yes, I'll go check. You guard the courtyard door."
The two brothers approached the courtyard door, and Qian Duo Duo quieted down.
Without his crutch, Qi Chong stepped outside and picked up two small stones.
