"Are you awake?" The man's voice was deep and gentle, almost hoarse.
Yu Chunmiao stretched lazily, unabashedly climbing onto the man's body. "No wonder you slept so soundly; someone has been fanning me all along," she murmured, her voice muffled against his chest, filled with a languid charm.
"Qing Niangzi, if you don't wake up soon, I might just lose half my life here," he said, a hint of urgency in his tone.
Yu Chunmiao detected the oddity in his voice, reminiscent of the first time they lay together—filled with restraint and suppressed emotions. She felt a thrill; after all, she hadn’t done anything at all. Her charm was indeed boundless.
"Let him be," she thought as she got up and dressed.
During lunch, she had asked Lu Ziyou about where to eat and have fun in the county. She wasn’t interested in dinner; instead, she planned to fill her stomach with junk food. It was also an opportunity to scout for business prospects since Xian Cao Mi would likely sell out by September when the weather turned cooler.
After washing up, the two of them asked for directions as they made their way into the county at night.
The streets in the county were wider than those in the town, stretching over ten meters across. Neatly arranged stalls lined both sides, leaving enough space in the middle for horse-drawn carriages to pass through. The cobblestones on the ground were large and well-kept.
It wasn’t a festival day, and it was still early; there weren’t many pedestrians on the street, but all the necessary stalls were already set up.
Qi Chong, though a farmer, always dressed in armor when he went out. Today he wore a light ink-colored cross-collared long shirt, cinched at the wrists and waist, giving him an upright and heroic appearance. Even with a cane for support, his handsome face captured the attention of passersby.
From time to time, young women would peek at him while discreetly covering their faces with hand fans.
Walking beside him, Yu Chunmiao barely reached his shoulder. She wore a newly made long dress of fine blue cotton paired with a light blue belt. The outfit fit her well; although the belt was slightly loose, it accentuated her graceful figure beautifully.
A long and thick fishbone braid hung down her chest, drawing people's eyes to her curves. Male stall owners eagerly called out to her.
"Little Qing Niangzi, come see my jewelry! My pieces are both beautiful and affordable!"
"Little Qing Niangzi, come check out my rouge!"
It was she who caught their attention, but it was Qi Chong who truly captivated them all.
Yu Chunmiao had no interest in these things; she was hungry and wanted to find something to eat. A whiff of bean aroma wafted through the air, and she reached out to call for someone beside her, only to realize there was no one there.
As she turned around, Qi Chong was hurrying toward her from behind.
"I'm sorry, I got a bit carried away since it’s my first time here at night and forgot that your leg isn't well," she said, her tone almost playful.
Qi Chong gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and replied, "I was held up by a stall owner just now; it’s not your fault. How fast can you go? I can keep up."
Yu Chunmiao smiled sweetly and took his hand as they continued walking. She had felt a bit scared when she noticed the emptiness beside her just moments ago.
They arrived at a stall and ordered two bowls of soft bean curd, both topped with savory sauce and sprinkled with green onions. Sitting side by side, they enjoyed the silky texture of the dish, occasionally exchanging smiles filled with sweetness.
"Yu Chunmiao!" A voice interrupted their moment.
A young man sat down directly across from them, his gaze fixed on Yu Chunmiao, eyes sparkling with joy as if he had found something precious after a long time.
Yu Chunmiao looked up in surprise. "Xiao Wei?"
Qi Chong felt a sudden tightness in his chest, an immediate tension enveloping him.
