The Tianqi Family was bustling with activity. The smoke from the chimney never ceased, and Qi Yuan was using his planer so vigorously that it seemed to be smoking. Qi Rong swaggered down the village path, saving time with each confident step. Qi Chong's iron pestle seemed to spark as he ground it.

Qi Chong helped Yu Chunmiao onto the Ox Cart and then gracefully leaped into the driver's seat. With a flick of his whip, the Ox Cart set off. Upon reaching the village entrance, they encountered a woman in her fifties carrying a basket of Sweet Potatoes and holding a large burlap bag in her hand. She stopped the Ox Cart and said, "Qi Daizi, I asked Wang Butcher, and he said you rented this cart. I have too much stuff to carry to town; could you let me ride along?"
Qi Chong regarded her coldly and moved aside. The woman stood in front of the Ox Cart stubbornly and sweetly said, "I'll pay! Wang Butcher charges two big coins for a ride; I'll give you three."
Qi Chong repeated his earlier response: "Move aside."
The woman's expression changed instantly as she adopted a condescending tone: "I say, Qi Daizi, I am your elder by age. It’s not like I’m not paying; there’s still room in the Ox Cart—why can’t you let me ride along?"
Qi Chong's face darkened. "What do you think?"
She shot him a glare and retorted, "Two years ago when your father passed away, I wasn’t the only one there. Others didn’t interfere; why do you hold a grudge against my husband alone?"
Qi Chong's eyes were red-rimmed, and his tone was heavy with gloom. At that moment, only Your Man was by his side. He shouted, "My father can't just lie there unattended, waiting to be bitten by a venomous snake."

Yu Chunmiao didn't ask Father-in-law what had happened back then, but from his few words, she could guess the general idea. Once again, it was the cold indifference driven by self-interest that had harmed Father-in-law and brought down the Qi Family.
The woman tried to explain, "But Yang Shu, you went back to find him later."
