Lin Rumei stood up, suppressing her shock. Clearing her throat, she raised her voice and said, “Since Mr. Jiang has appointed me as the leader, I hope everyone will act according to Mr. Jiang's wishes from now on. The underground bosses from Hong Kong Island nodded in agreement. Even if they felt disgruntled, they had no choice; Jiang Chen's methods had truly intimidated them.
“Then Mr. Jiang, how about we have dinner together tonight?” Lin Rumei asked.
“You can dine with them; I’ll head back to eat,” Jiang Chen replied.
“Alright, Mr. Jiang, I’ll see you home first,” Lin Rumei said.
“No need for that. You’ve just taken on this leadership role and are busier than I am. Just send someone to take me back,” Jiang Chen smiled.
Lin Rumei did not insist further and arranged for someone to escort Jiang Chen away.
After the earlier display of authority, Lin Rumei felt emboldened. Since Jiang Chen had been so domineering, she could not afford to lose face.
“Miss Lin, who exactly is Mr. Jiang?” one of the bosses asked nervously.
“He is someone we cannot afford to provoke. Do you know why our Lin family has ceased cooperation with the Golden Triangle since last year?” Lin Rumei replied.
“Could it be because of this Mr. Jiang?”
“Exactly.”
“The Golden Triangle is a lucrative opportunity! Your Lin family must be losing at least a billion each year by not cooperating with them. Can you really afford that?”
“If we could afford it, then Sang Ming’s fate would be ours as well. Everyone here should recognize the situation; you’ve seen Mr. Jiang’s strength. Moreover, he is not one to show mercy. If you defy him even slightly, it will lead to your demise,” Lin Rumei warned.
“Miss Lin, if you think that just one Mr. Jiang can make us willingly submit, you might be dreaming. We in the Hong Kong Island underground have our own rules. Mr. Jiang is an outsider and has no right to dictate our actions. If you disrupt our livelihoods, it concerns thousands of people; if one person's livelihood is cut off, they will fight back fiercely. At that point, it won’t end well for you—can Mr. Jiang really kill everyone?” someone scoffed.
“Then you can try it out. Others may not dare to speak up, but whoever causes trouble will undoubtedly face death,” Lin Rumei replied coldly.
The bosses fell silent, anxiety creeping into their hearts. If their subordinates caused trouble later on, it would not bode well for them when Mr. Jiang came looking for answers. This Mr. Jiang was too decisive when it came to killing; if it came to that point, they might not even get a chance to explain before being eliminated by Jiang Chen.
“Rumei, is this leadership position Mr. Jiang’s idea or yours?” Lin Shuang pulled her daughter aside and whispered.
“Of course it’s Mr. Jiang’s idea; I don’t have the ability to covet this position,” Lin Rumei said helplessly, feeling as though she had been forced into a corner.
“Sigh, this leadership role is no easy task. Even with Mr. Jiang backing you up, following his wishes means cutting off many people’s sources of income—those people won’t hesitate to fight back against you when the time comes. You need to discuss this with Mr. Jiang later; otherwise, your life could be in danger at any moment,” Lin Shuang advised.
