On the day of Wang Lei's discharge, Yu Jie and Lin Xiao decided to go together to pick him up. When they arrived at the hospital, Lin Xiao was startled to see Zhao Fei and Jin Lai packing up Wang Lei's belongings. Since the day Lin Xiao and Zhao Fei parted ways in the hospital, she hadn't seen her again. According to Wang Wenya, Zhao Fei was lingering in Yurou County, which relieved Lin Xiao; at least she wouldn't be bothering her and Li Hao anymore.
In the ward, there were still quite a few people around. Lin Xiao didn't mention Zhao Fei or ask about any situation; after greeting everyone, she left with Yu Jie to Wang Lei's home. Wang Lei lived in Fu Yuan Community, in a two-bedroom apartment.
Since Wang Lei was still recovering and couldn't sit or stand for too long, they didn't wait until mealtime to eat. Lin Xiao had bought groceries when she picked him up. While she was washing vegetables in the kitchen, Zhao Fei came in and shut the kitchen door behind her.
"Lin Xiao," she called out, causing Lin Xiao's scalp to tingle with unease; she sensed something was wrong.
"I've developed feelings for Wang Lei," Zhao Fei said bluntly upon seeing Lin Xiao's shocked expression. "I’m your friend."
Zhao Fei had been hanging around the hospital hoping to learn about Lin Xiao and Li Hao from Wang Lei, but she didn't expect him to be so intriguing. He only knew that she was a college student and assumed she had come to rely on Lin Xiao, which is why he let her stay there.
"You’re living at his place?" Lin Xiao couldn't help but raise her voice.
If it weren't for her own situation with Wang Lei, Zhao Fei wouldn't have cared about what happened with Lin Xiao.
"He doesn't know you're Xu Jianyun's daughter? He doesn't know who your grandfather is?" Lin Xiao asked as she shook her head at Zhao Fei.
"Did you tell him any truths?"
"Yes, my name is real, my age is real; everything else I told him was about being from a single-parent family, that my mother worked hard to raise me," Zhao Fei's voice grew quieter.
"Zhao Fei, let him go. Don’t you want to follow me and Li Hao? After dinner, just come back with me," Lin Xiao sighed.
"I won't go with you; I want to be with him," Zhao Fei insisted stubbornly.
Lin Xiao spoke earnestly about Wang Lei's character. "Zhao Fei, he’s not your type. You both seek different lifestyles. Wang Lei is nearly ten years older than you; he’s just an ordinary police officer—not as interesting as you think."
"Lin Xiao, do you think Wang Lei has ever liked you? That he’s your possession?"
Lin Xiao was left speechless by Zhao Fei's words, surprised that Wang Lei would bring this up with her. In truth, Wang Lei hadn't said much; with Zhao Fei's intelligence, she could easily guess the underlying meaning.
"I can't interfere in your relationship, but within three days, if you don't clarify who you are to him, I will tell him myself," Lin Xiao Zhi had said, feeling powerless against Zhao Fei. She could only hope that Wang Lei wouldn’t be swayed by her charm.
During dinner, Zhao Fei was unusually warm towards Lin Xiao, as if they were the best of friends. Lin Xiao chose not to expose Zhao Fei's facade, and the four of them managed to enjoy a pleasant meal together.
After finishing, Zhao Fei took the initiative to clear the dishes. Lin Xiao was surprised that she knew how to do this and didn’t stop her. Instead, she went to the kitchen to grab a cloth to wipe the table.
Suddenly, a series of sharp sounds echoed from the kitchen—plates and bowls crashing to the floor.
Wang Lei rushed into the kitchen. "Don't move! Be careful with your hands."
Lin Xiao felt her heart sink slowly. Could it be that Wang Lei was starting to like Zhao Fei? She genuinely hoped for Wang Lei to find a good partner, but what about Zhao Fei? It wasn't just because Zhao Fei was the daughter of a wealthy tycoon; it was her youth and temperament that seemed constantly eager to prove herself.
"Brother Lei, I cut my hand!" Lin Xiao heard Zhao Fei’s playful voice from the kitchen, accompanied by Wang Lei's gentle reassurances.
So, what exactly had happened over this past month?
