Lin Xiao thought that Zhao Fei had decided to give up, and for the next few days, he didn’t reach out to them again. It seemed that Zhao Fei had moved on.
As the National Day holiday was coming to an end, on the last day of the break, Lin Xiao and her friends were preparing to return to Gengxu Town, while Li Hao had not yet returned from an all-night shoot with the film crew.
Lin Xiao felt a bit regretful and sent a farewell message before heading downstairs.
When she arrived at the hotel lobby, she saw Li Hao standing beside a business vehicle. Tian Tian spotted her father and ran over with her little legs, her two braids bouncing adorably.
"You don’t need to see us off; you should go back and get some sleep," Lin Xiao said, noticing the stubble on Li Hao’s face from staying up all night.
"I’ll go back with you. I just needed to finish things up here," Li Hao explained while holding the child. "I didn’t tell you in advance because I was worried it wouldn’t wrap up yesterday."
Seeing Lin Xiao’s expression shift from sadness to joy made Li Hao wonder if she was really happy.
"Yes," Lin Xiao replied. "Aren’t you happy too, Tian Tian?" She gently pinched the child’s chubby cheeks.
Upon returning to Yurou County, they didn’t head straight back to Gengwei Town but instead went to the hospital to visit Wang Lei.
After Lin Xiao left that day, Wang Lei felt regretful. He realized he hadn’t understood Lin Xiao’s feelings; he had just been upset at that moment and hadn’t adjusted his mindset.
He knew that Lin Xiao had never liked him, not even during the time she was with Li Hao; she had never shown any affection toward him.
As a friend, Lin Xiao was loyal.
"How are you doing?" Li Hao asked as he sat down beside the bed.
"I’m recovering well, but I can’t be discharged yet," Wang Lei replied.
Perhaps because of Lin Xiao’s presence, Wang Lei felt a sense of camaraderie with Li Hao. "This is actually my first time seeing Tian Tian."
"Tian Tian, call him uncle," Lin Xiao said as she lifted Tian Tian and placed her on Li Hao’s lap while looking directly at Wang Lei.
"She looks just like you, Lin Xiao. What a beautiful little girl," Wang Lei smiled at the child. "It’s a pity that Uncle can’t move right now; otherwise, I’d give you a hug."
"Uncle, why can’t you move?" Tian Tian asked curiously.
Her innocent question made Wang Lei burst into laughter.
With the child in between them, the atmosphere became warm and cheerful.
"Li Hao, Lin Xiao sister, are you here to see a friend?"
Hearing this voice startled both Li Hao and Lin Xiao, and they exclaimed in unison, "What are you doing here?"
Hearing from my cousin that the Cui Ping Scenic Area is particularly suitable for relaxation, I decided to come. On the high-speed train, I was in the next compartment to you. Zhao Fei looked like an innocent and adorable creature.
"Big brother, you're hurt; just looking at it makes me ache," Zhao Fei said as she approached Wang Lei, blinking her big eyes twice, tears almost spilling over, looking pitiful.
Wang Lei looked at Zhao Fei in confusion and then turned to Lin Xiao.
"Sorry, I know her. I'll take her out," Lin Xiao said, grabbing Zhao Fei's wrist and leading her out of the hospital room.
"What do you want, Zhao Fei?" Lin Xiao wondered how Li Hao could tolerate her for three months; he truly admired it.
"Xiaoxiao, I'm really here to have fun. I heard from Chen Dao that you want to promote the Cui Ping Scenic Area's reputation. I can help with that—free of charge."
Zhao Fei's words made Lin Xiao uneasy; how could someone look so innocent while stalking others?
"Zhao Fei, I don’t understand. What about us piqued your interest enough for you to follow us like this?"
"Do you really want to know?" Zhao Fei's lips curled into a slight smile, her gaze growing somewhat cold.
"I just want to know why Li Hao remains unaffected by me while you trust him so much. You two are the only ones I've encountered who genuinely trust each other."
"Is it just because of that?" Lin Xiao couldn't believe it.
"Yes, precisely because of that. I want to see how you two interact on a daily basis," Zhao Fei stated matter-of-factly.
Lin Xiao studied Zhao Fei, unable to discern how much truth lay behind her words.
In her heart, Lin Xiao thought that Zhao Fei would undoubtedly become a deserving movie queen in the future.
