Li Hao had just thought of a grappling technique when a familiar scent enveloped him, and a tender voice rang in his ears. He embraced Lin Xiao, and the two, having not seen each other for a long time, kissed passionately.
In the night, they lost themselves for a moment. The kiss was long and intense before they finally pulled away.
"How did you come back?" Lin Xiao asked, unable to contain her joy.
Seeing her genuine happiness made Li Hao feel that all his hardships were worth it. "I missed you. In a couple of days, Sister Wang will bring Tian Tian to keep you company."
Li Hao had learned that Yu Rao's situation was basically resolved.
"Really? That's wonderful!" Lin Xiao exclaimed. She understood Li Hao well; he was always cautious, and if he hadn’t felt the crisis was over, he wouldn’t have let Tian Tian come over.
Li Hao wrapped his arms around Lin Xiao as they entered the courtyard and locked the door behind them.
"Have you eaten? I'll make you something. How did you get here?" Lin Xiao fired off several questions in quick succession.
"I've eaten. I drove here and brought someone along; we took turns driving."
That meant he had rushed over right after making a call to himself that morning.
"Li Hao, don’t do this next time," Lin Xiao said as she hugged him tightly. "It worries me when you act like this."
"Silly, I should have come to keep you company right away," Li Hao replied, ruffling her hair. "Go take a shower."
When Lin Xiao finished her shower and came out, she found Li Hao sitting on the bed with his head resting against the headboard, softly snoring.
Her heart swelled with emotion; Li Hao usually slept soundly without snoring unless he was extremely tired or drunk.
She turned off the main light in the room and quietly slipped under the covers.
As soon as Lin Xiao moved, Li Hao woke up instantly and pulled her close to him.
"Sleep now; I'm tired too," he murmured.
These past few days had been busy for Lin Xiao with Wang Lei's matters, keeping her nerves taut as she also dealt with issues in the town.
Seeing Li Hao made the tension in my heart ease, and I found a comfortable position to lie down.
I slept soundly through the night.
"When are you leaving?" Lin Xiao asked, turning to his side after waking up.
"I'll leave when you go to work."
"That soon?" Lin Xiao's disappointment was evident.
"Just two more months over there."
Perhaps it was the impending separation, or perhaps it was the restful night we had, but both of us felt a little stirred in the early morning light.
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, filling the room with a warm glow.
When Li Hao emerged from the bathroom, holding Lin Xiao, two hours had already passed.
"The County Head said he would propose that I become the Party Secretary of Gengxu Town." Lin Xiao, still recovering from the news, felt limp in his embrace. I agreed to it.
"You can decide for yourself; both Tian Tian and I support you."
"After that year, I might not be able to return to the province," Lin Xiao said, understanding what such an appointment meant for Li Hao.
"It's okay. I actually have something to discuss with you too. Once this production wraps up, I plan to accept a position with Hai Xingxing at the Starfish Charity Foundation."
"Do you think I'm being too selfish for not considering you and Tian Tian?"
Perhaps it was years of traditional education binding him; Lin Xiao tried to break free but found it difficult.
"If I go to the production team and then to the Starfish Charity Foundation, would you think I'm selfish?" Li Hao countered with a question.
"No, that's your chosen career."
"Exactly. Marriage should be a home built on love for us, not a shackle that binds your ideals and career."
