Lin Xiao handed a tissue to Lu Shijun, who wiped the sweat from his forehead and began to speak. After a while, Lin Xiao was taken aback; she had not expected Li Hongxin to be so bold.
"Do you have any evidence?" she asked.
"No, what I just told you was based on my analysis," he replied.
Lin Xiao had thought that Yang Feng was backed by his cousin Wang Hao, but it turned out that Wang Hao was actually Yang Feng's henchman. Who was behind Yang Feng? And who was behind them? Lin Xiao found it all confusing and had no idea what role Li Hongxin played in this situation.

Lin Xiao's mind went blank, and she felt a chill run down her back; this was undoubtedly a frame-up. She regretted not having Wang Mei stay behind, which would have prevented her from being in such a passive position now. Yet, she felt relieved that Wang Mei wasn’t there; otherwise, the other party might have concocted even more damaging schemes.
In the interrogation room, Wang Dawei and Li Liang sat across from Lin Xiao.
"I'm sorry to involve you in this, Town Head Lin," Wang Dawei said straightforwardly.
There’s a camera on the persimmon tree in our yard that was turned on when we were younger. You should be able to see who entered the yard.
That day, when Lin Xiao relayed Lu Shijun's words to Wang Dawei, he reminded her to take care of herself. She had turned on the camera at her residence, not expecting it would come in handy so soon.
Lin Xiao recounted what Lu Shijun had said that day to Wang Dawei once more.
"Town Head Lin, according to organizational procedures, you might have to stay here for a few days," Wang Dawei said apologetically. "By the way, we’ve informed your husband."
"Wang!" Lin Xiao couldn’t help but raise her voice. The thought of Li Hao knowing made her feel overwhelmed.
"Town Head Lin, I’m really sorry. With you here, we feel more at ease. We’re about to tighten the net soon."
Wang Dawei had checked the accounts of Gengxu Town over the past five years based on the transfer times provided by Zhou Qing and found intricate connections with a shell construction company.
Peeling back the layers, he also investigated the clues provided by Lu Shijun.
Wang Dawei had arranged accommodations and meals perfectly.
Lin Xiao was still pondering whether Li Hao could come. She wanted him to keep her company but also dreaded his arrival, knowing it would lead to a scolding.
In the middle of the night, Lin Xiao suddenly woke up with a start, vaguely seeing someone sitting at the foot of her bed, causing her to gasp in fright.
"It's me." Li Hao reached out and turned on the room light.
"How did you get in?" Lin Xiao asked, still shaken as she patted her chest.
"You’re really bold now," Li Hao said through gritted teeth.
Lin Xiao crawled out from under the covers and hugged him, playfully admitting her mistake. "Don’t be mad; I know what I’m doing."
"Why did you send Sister Wang back to Beijing?"
"Why didn’t you discuss these things with me when you were doing them?"
